Turn based Dnd ehh ?

Go get Baldurs Gate with expansion asap ! (Don't really know if it counts as turn based.)

And this game isn't dnd but it's a great rpg, actually it's one of my alltime favorites: Chrono Trigger, get a snes emulator + chrono trigger and go play.

I PC doesn't have the same caliber RPG's that consoles (mainly the PSX) has in it's repertoire, but if you're sticking to computers then most of the Ultima series is awesome. particularly 6 through 8. Yeah, their graphics may not be first class. but a true RPG fan cares not about those details, especially when the plot + characters ARE first class. ^_^

I remember there was a sort of turn-based game called something like Magic something something. this was back when i was in elementary school -_- almost 10 years ago, but i remember it was really fun. I stopped playing it when i found out about civ2 though ^^

but other than turn-based, a REALLLLLLY good RPG that is also available on rom is Tales of Phantasia.

Thought the same thing at first... but then i realised in reality FF is EXACTLY turn based DnD style gaming. Infact i cant think of a RPG that isnt turn based. When theyre not turn based they are called action adventures.

Seiken Densetsu 2 and the rest of the Secret of Mana series arent turn based but are definetly more RPG than action-adventure

A game like ShadowRun(great old school "RPG") is more action adventure than RPG though.

but final fantasy style is nothing at all like dnd style. in the world of rpgs, those two are about as far away from eachother as you can get without it being something like an action/rpg or action/adventure.

dont get me wrong, i do love final fantasy games and many other console rpgs, its just playing final fantasy 7 then playing baldurs gate 2...its a completely different style of play

I don't agree that console rpg are beter, they are diferent, u can't compere any console rpg to fallout. Console rpg are linear, u listing not talking u have main plot, and that is it in pc rpg sub-quest are bigest part of game. U have much more freedom, u can like become porno star/slave master (many more) in "free time" not as part of main quest that u have to complite. U can do quest in many way's.

I think if you want to compare overall console rpgs have a much higher quality than pc rpgs, in terms of storylines anyway. Not all RPG games on console are linear, and linear RPGs arent neccesarily bad anyway.

Imo big intesting word, where u can make your own decision is part of storyline, so i don't agree. Writing a book > reading a book. I don't like storyline where u have none or little to determine, even if it is very good it's make me borring after i go foward, listen, foward, fight, fight, foward, listen - rather boring imo. Rpg that gives u more freedom are on pc.

Why does everyone say this game is good? I'd much rather play Chrono Trigger or something.

BTW, does anyone know where I can get a Playstation Emulator? My PS1 broke and I haven't been able to play Final Fantasy Tactics T_T

thats just one aspect of an rpg though, the trade-off is that pc games are far deeper and have more freedom.

Well, the fallout series is pretty good. There was a similar kind of game called gorky 5 or sthg like that.
U got all the baldur's gate engine style games.
For PC u wont find a lot of FF style games.

BUT IF U WANT THE REAL STRATEGY GAME, GET UFO: ENEMY UNKNOWN. I think in some countries it was commercialized by the name of X-Com. Thats the real game man. Proly one of the most addictive games ever.

I'd definetly say that PC RPGs allow for far more freedom than a console game ever could, no question about that.

classic d&d-style turn-based rpgs
might and magic 3 ("heroes of..." is a turn-based strategy game loosely based on the might and magic universe; this is the original dungeon-crawl style crpg)
ravenloft 1, 2
menzoberranzan (mostly recommended for fans of the books)

more recent turn-based rpgs
knights of the old republic
fallout 1, 2
planescape: torment (notable for its characterizations and plot)
temple of elemental evil (straight-up d&d combat, no fancy story or anything)
neverwinter nights (built-in campaign is mediocre, but lots of fan-made content available)

not turn-based but still awesome
daggerfall/morrowind

tactical turn-based games (if you love turn-based combat)
jagged alliance 1
x-com series
