Ok folks, this afternoon at 1pm GMT we kicked off a world record attempt weekend, in Edinburgh @ Twitch Gaming.

This event is being run for charity, with all donations going towards gamesaid.org/.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Its is being run by Stick Twiddlers who are a gaming news, reviews and general gaming related shenanigans website.

There are a few world records being attempted, they include:
Longest time spend laddering in Starcraft 2 - (Regneva - EU, going for 50hrs straight)
Most consecutive 1v1 ladder wins in a row in Starcraft 2 - (GimbleB - EU)
Longest time spent playing an FPS game. (Halo Reach)
Longest time spent playing a Soccer game. (Fifa 2011)
Longest time spent playing Driving Game. (NFS: Hot Pursuit)
Longest time spent playing GTAIV.

That is just a few of the records being attempted, and they are all under strict conditions from Guinness as well.

You can read the full information on the event over on the Stick Twiddlers website.

There is a steam up on twiddlers main page as well, if anyone is interest, and ofcourse if anyone is in the area and wants to pop in and see whats going on you are more than welcome.

Also a quick thanks to Pholon in TL's iRC for taking the time to chat to me and okay this post going up. <3

I wish you guys good luck, but I won't be attending, as I don't really support this particular charity. There's a crisis in an ally's nation leaving 10,000 dead, but instead you chose to donate to a charity broker... Not sure if it was the wisest decision, but good luck regardless! I just wanted to leave my feedback.

As far as the event goes: Best of luck! Hope you raise loads of cash.

@RoosterSamurai Unfortunately this event has been planned for months and before the recent events in Japan. Your feedback is appreciated of course, and we still believe GamesAid is a worthwhile cause.

I'm curious as to what that number is. I believe I had a streak of about 150 wins in a row when I played from Bronze to Masters.

Would be interesting to see this played solely at top levels though.

Longest time spent playing Driving Game. (NFS: Hot Pursuit)

1. Is that the old, classic Hot Pursuit or the new 2010 one?

2. What will he do when he finishes all the events?

I am not going to derail the thread any further, but I did read through that link, and it's nothing more than a pseudo-intellectual argument that could be said for virtually any disasterous situation in the world. "Japan doesn't need it because there are other places that need it more." While this is true, you may have wanted to check out the first comment in response to the article.

I’m appalled by what you’ve written. You, like Annie Lowery at Slate, have indulged your laziness rather than spending a tiny bit of time doing a little reading and research among Americans who know something about Japan. If you had done the latter, you could have actually REPORTED on it instead of exposing your ignorance.

It is VERY EASY to help by sending donations directly to the localities in Japan that have been hardest hit. The prefectural governments are well aware of the local groups that are most able to help and can probably distribute those funds quicker and more effectively than ANY international organizations.

You can help repair some of the damage you’ve done by contacting the following governments to find the easiest way to get donations DIRECTLY to the locales that are hardest hit, then disseminate that information widely in major American and international press outlets.

Japan's economy was rocked by this earthquake as much as it's people were, and though they are a much stronger nation than, say, somalia, they will probably require help to some extent in recovering.
Sorry for derailing. Good luck with breaking some records!

edit: Spoiler is the comment's words in response to the article, not my own words.

Pfft. I thought it was a good game, those who hate on it just didn't give it a chance. Lets not derail the thread though. Besides, i think it has to be Hot Pursuit, as playing another game that has more content could give an unfair advantage over the previous record holder.
