Also that would require heavy investment in infrastructure, which would be prohibitive for any non-gigantic tournament organizers, etc....

Considering all the evidence its amazing he wasn't banned in the first place.
I would guess they were hoping it would get overlooked so they didn't have to publicly revoke the award, doesn't look good for them that a cheater managed to win it.

Apparently the initial report of being cleared by the DCI was for an investigation into collusion, not the shuffle cheats.

I plan on playing in Standard with a ragtag mix of Mardu colored cards thrown together. I have been traveling so I haven't had much time to practice but its my first big event like this so it should be a ton of fun.

How do I draft this set? Suggestions? What seems to be the best colors?

Either you care about lands or you don't. Basically means go 5 color or 2 color splashing a third.
If you go 5 color (big tell for me is getting a tri land early) your goal is to get fixing, blockers, morphs, and bombs. Looking at 10-12 fixing and about 8 morphs if you have either of the morph enablers (Trail of Mystery or Secret Plans). Almost always will be base blue because it has the best stallers with Monastery Flock and Crippling Chill. Try to pick up a couple Bitter Revelations and/or Treasure Cruises to tie your deck together. Other then that just snag up all the fixing and hilarious bombs that get passed to you and enjoy your free wins as everyone else in your pod bitches about getting mana screwed.
2 color is a little bit harder to identify but if you do it well its fine. Will be looking to be the aggressor vs the 4/5 color decks and IMO the biggest thing is that you are just looking to curve out. If you can get on the board early vs the 5 color decks and just keep putting on the pressure / remove their stuff before the critical 5 land mark. If you do go 2 color try to be base enemy colors so you can potentially splash to 2 separate colors pretty easily. These will play most like other drafts and are just looking for a good mix of threats / removal / tricks with minimal fixing. Depending on your splashes I would shoot for 2-4 fixing and roll with it. W/B is probably the best out of the two color decks but combinations work just fine (U/R, G/B, etc.)
Clan strength really just depends on what your deck looks like. If I would have to rank them it would probably be Abzan, Mardu, Jeskai/Temur, and then Sultai. Again you are looking to be base two colors and then splashing a third.

Edit: forgot the most importat part, pick a strategy and stay without the entire draft, its much better to play your shit then have cards sit in your hand that you can't cast. Also, 18 lands. Almost all this information is gathered after reading articles like the one above and SCG stuff

Ended up playing Standard at FNM, bought Boss Sligh for 35 dollars (lol) and then borrowed Rabblemasters from my roommate because shinanaigans needed to be had. Might cut the Firedrinkers though, They were almost never good. Especially when mcmcmc, Double Stokes 2 of them and Lightining Strikes the other in testing. Dunna what to make them though.

IMO just replace the Charms with Swan Songs or Stuborn Denials and just go slap nuts. Then turn the trailerblazers into seeker of the way 3 and 4.
