I have a couple questions:

when m12 comes out, whats the Standard pool of sets become?

I was wondering About Creating a BUDGET deck for standard, or other formats, that can stand a chance in real online tournaments...or is that just a pipe dream?
My card pool is small, only really have alot of m11 because thats the last time i played, going to be draft some m12 when the release events come out though.

If anyone has any suggestions lemme know, and if you have estimates for cost that would be awesome too!

Budget deck is tempered steel, that shit is built in about 100 dollars with smart trading.

T2 standard is right now:
M11-Zendikar-Worldwake-Rise of Eldrazi-Scars of Mirrodin-Mirrodin Besieged-New Phyrexia-M12

Rotation happens in Sept, with M11-ZEN-WWK-ROE rotating with Innistrad coming in.

^^what this guy said.
You can do reasonably well with a mono red deck (these are usually among the cheaper decks in the format, depending if you shell out for Koths or not). The tempered steel deck is pretty cheap too.

As far as what rotates, nothing. The standard pool is Zendikar block (zen, worldwake, rise, -jace and stoneforge), Scars block, M11, and M12. When the new set comes out, Innistrad, M11 and Zendikar block will not be legal. That won't be until October (3rd?) though.

I used to be just like you, then I took a sweetroll to the knee.

I used his "Rareless and Careless" for a while then upgraded it with a few rarer cards to some success. I got the entire thing for 2 tickets plus a few things I already had from drafts.

His goblins deck (2nd one on the list) is dirt cheap, especially if you have some M12 already.

Tempered Steel definitely looks better positioned than mono-red at this point. Fighting through Timely Reinforcements, Spellskite, Obstinate Baloth, Leyline of Sanctity, and/or Kor Firewalker is just a huge pain for red decks. Not totally unwinnable but it's work I don't want to put in when I could be the guy playing the Timely Reinforcements and Kor Firewalkers :V

So stoked, just won my first draft online. Yeah, it was a 4-3, but still, happy as all hell.

I ended up Red/Black, I opened a Flameblast dragon and was the only red drafter at the table for the first pack, second pack was a blank but got passed a Mind Control and Aven Fleetwing back to back, but ended up not getting any blue and just getting a Bloodrage Vampire and Duskhunter Bat in black on top of the Gravedigger, Deathmark, and Consume Spirit I already had. I said out loud to myself, "If I open a Sorin, I'm Black, Jace and I'm Blue." And I opened a Sorin, so I went black. 2-0'd the first 2 rounds to mediocre decks that really didn't play much before they died (although I had a great one where the guy was at 23 due to lifegain bullshit, I played Sorin, killed off a blocker, then next turn put him to 10, attacked with Crumbling Colossus, then flung it before the sac trigger for lethal.), and ended up 2-1 in the finals to Blue/White fliers (3x Aven Fleetwings + Archon of Justice + Timely Reinforcements). I won both games that I got a turn 1 Fireslinger + turn 2 Duskhunter Bat and lost the game I kept a hand with 2 lands, a bunch of 3 drops, and Combust.

Last game was close, I kept a hand with Chandra's Outrage, 2 Swamps, 1 Mountain, Dragonskull Summit, Goblin Fireslinger, and Duskhunter Bat. Drew another outrage first turn and thought it was pretty well over. He had a turn 4 Fleetwing that traded with my bat, then a turn 5 Fleetwing that stuck around. I ended up with a turn 6 Sorin, though, and his +2 kept him alive for 2 turns until he played and equipped a Greatsword on his Fleetwing. I drained with Sorin to put him to 7 and Fireslinged him on his turn to put him to 6, he played Griffin Sentinel and Assault Griffin (that got Outraged) once Sorin was dead, but I was able to Firesling + Consume Spirit for 4 to end the game before they could beat me down too hard.

Decklist:
+ Show Spoiler +

1x Sorin Markov
1x Flameblast Dragon
1x Dragonskull Summit
1x Crumbling Colossus
1x Consume Spirit
1x Bloodrage Vampire
1x Child of Night
1x Goblin Fireslinger
1x Blood Ogre
1x Gorehorn Minotaur
2x Chandra's Outrage
2x Firey Hellhound
1x Duskhunter Bat
1x Lava Axe
1x Fling
1x Goblin War Paint
1x Shock
1x Mind Rot
1x Manic Vandal
1x Slaughter Cry
1x Gravedigger

I just bought into Standard with tempered steel. No mox opals or ink moth nexus. My friends going to lend me those more expensive so I can try to grind out some daily events until I can just buy them myself.

Hit me up on mtgo if you wanna play sometime. Name is aydizzle.

Valakut lol. Prolly wasn't the right call, but it tested the best. 2 UG Genwave and a venser control. I felt like poop because we drove from houston and got like no sleep. Atleast Haibing is undefeated. Gunna be a long drive back if he doesn't win lol.

MTG was a huge part of my childhood. Me and my brother fought all the time until we both started playing Magic (older cousin we both looked up to started playing) and found a common interest. We ended up becoming really close.

In high school I was that quiet kid with like no friends, but, every Wednsday and Friday I would go to the local card shop after school and have a blast with all the regulars. They were all older and in college. They beat me every time, but I feel I learned a lot by losing to people so much better than me. If I wasn't young and money-less, and could run a Tier 1 deck, I would have been just as good as them (I think anyway. I do have a bit of an ego =P )

I quit around the time Ravnica came out. Only played on MWS at Magic-League every once in a while. Stopped following the game completely around the time Time Spiral was new.

Great times. I've always wanted to start playing again and was thinking about doing some drafting on Magic Online (way cheaper than constructed).

Is there a place I can look up the changes made to the game in the past few years? I know they screwed around with core concepts like the stack and added lame planeswalkers.

Also, is there a site that gives detailed summaries of the books? Like, really detailed? I was a bnit of a lore nut and would like to catch up. I noticed Phyrexia is mentioned in some of the newer sets and I'm really interested to see how that story line turned out post-invasion. Yawgy rox my sox. <3

ok guys I have a question for you

look at this deck:

http://www.magicdeckvortex.com/DDB/indestructible_march.htm

now look at the card March of the machines, which makes each artifact an artifact creature with x/x where x is it's converted mana cost

then look at myr matrix

myr matrix has an ability where for 5 you put a 1/1 myr artifact creature into play.

so... when you put that 1/1 myr artifact creature into play, does that mean it's converted mana cost is 5?

It's the like old March deck when March first printed...I ran that when it was Standard legal until Ravager and T/N came out.

As for your question, no. March affects non-creature artifacts. Tokens are 0 CMC unless otherwise stated. March also blew up all the artifact lands that were popular at the time, so literally it was a total board wipe once March resolved.

Yeah it was a fun deck, except casting March didn't mean much when you died on turn 4 or 5.

I used to run MotM back when it was standard legal.

Fun times.

I Top 4'ed a JSS with it back in the day.

Epic game three against Tooth and Nail - I Obliterate late game. He has only a Darksteel Collosis and I have March + enough three Ingots and a Pendant.

I can't attack because I need all my guys to block or I lose. He can't attack because he needs to block one of my guys or he loses. So we go to draw-go, and he eventually wins the race for lands. :/

Great game though. It went on longer than any of the others so we had a crowed watching us the whole time.

Pro Tour Philly changed to Modern format 3 weeks before the tournament. That along with a brand new ban list that pretty much cuts ALOT of decks out.

New List:
Ancestral Vision
Ancient Den
Bitterblossom
Chrome Mox
Dark Depths
Dread Return
Glimpse of Nature
Golgari Grave-Troll
Great Furnace
Hypergenesis
Jace, the Mind Sculptor
Mental Misstep
Seat of the Synod
Sensei's Divining Top
Skullclamp
Stoneforge Mystic
Sword of the Meek
Tree of Tales
Umezawa's Jitte
Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle
Vault of Whispers

So many decks out, but it looks like I'm playing an aggressive deck of some kind. Prolly Congregation Zoo.
