It's such a fragile dragon that it's only really good for revenge killing unless your opponent is caught completely off guard. The two other dragons in this gen, Hydreigon and Druddigon, outshine Haxorus in many ways. You might be mixing it up, Druddigon is terrible. He has good but unimpressive attack (by dragon standards, every other dragon has higher attack) and decent defenses, but he's ridiculously slow and lacks the setup moves every other good dragon has. Good fight with Altaria for worst dragon type in the game. While Haxorus is an excellent pokemon, ridiculously high 147 attack, average defenses and speed, and a movepool that only misses Stone Edge, but has X-Scissor instead. If he had an extra 6 base speed he'd be in the conversation for best OU dragon in the game, but because he doesn't, he's just Garchomp lite. Outclassed but still has a spot, very good ability as well.

After further research I found out this though "Roamers' stats and natures are usually set when released (before even being fought the first time). You can KO and reset for a new Tornadus by beating the Elite 4."

It requires a different playstyle from the other dragons because it needs Trick Room to be effective, so Haxorus is better than it. However, I don't believe Haxorus is an excellent pokemon exactly because of those reasons you stated. Yes, ridiculous attack, but the poor defenses and the awkward speed tier just makes it the dragon-type glass cannon. I really believe that it will settle into a role as a revenge killer in OU.

Haxorus is a solid poke but I agree it really is just Garchomp but a bit slower and weaker, though with less type weaknesses as a pure Dragon type.

Now, for a trick room team, you need powerful SLOW sweepers. What we have in Druddigon is a poweful SLOW dragon with outrage that can 1 hit other scary dragons that are commonly used such as garchomp, salamance, or haxorus. This means the more powerful dragons never get to attack or set up. 120 power stab on 120 base attack

If you catch a patrat, it'll get some nice moves early on (crunch at like lvl 17, hypnosis soon aftewards), but you're going to drop it by 25ish. I'd stick with just the starter + monkey for a while, then worry about other pokes once in the 20's. Compared to Haxorus he's got slightly more SpDef, less Atk, and is about half as fast. Although Haxorus is still kinda slow compared to quite a few other popular sweepers, and needs to get at least a Dragon Dance off to be effective without Choice Scarf. I do agree Hydreigon is probably the best, good movepool, good SpAtk. But suffers the same problems as a lot of the Gen V pokemon, Speed.

Tyranitar gets wasted by every fighting move in the game, of which there are MANY. I was quite partial to DD salamance until it got the ban hammer. I'm still not quite sure why Salamence got the ban hammer. Garchomp I understand because that extra 2 to base Speed makes a HUGE difference, but I never had an issue with Salamence. Oh well, I tend to concentrate on Special sweepers now in OU or a Sand Stream team. I don't play OU much thankfully. I don't really like any of the new dragons. Hydregion isn't really my cup of tea, I'm not a fan of special based Dragon types. Haxorus is a glass cannon among glass cannons but it doesn't really have the speed to use it effectively. Druddigon is pure trick room gimmick.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous the amount of Close Combats and Focus Blasts on teams these days.
