That part about Zain is not true at all lol. He's where the other MDVA players are, and he trade sets with all of them. His Plup, KJH, Tafo, Nintendude wins are just icing on the cake. He's ridiculously talented, easily has the best skill level vs time played ratio in the scene. Expect big things in 2017, starting with G4.
Who do you think he was rated above that he wouldn't beat?

Just to be clear, I don't think Zain's ranking is undeserved. Dude's entertaining as hell to watch and I honestly hope he does well next year.
It was more a comment on how panel voting plays with the results, especially in the bottom half of the ranking. There's a ton of Melee players these days, and it's obviously impossible to know them all. As a result, I think big wins tend to stand out more than sheer consistency for relatively unknown players. People don't remember Zain because he finished 49th at EVO. They remember him because he beat Plup. That's what I mean when I say that one win secured his ranking.
And honestly, if you randomly shuffled the players in the 60-80 range around, I don't think I'd notice. 20 places looks like it should indicate a large difference in skill, but it really doesn't.

tbh everyone from 60-100 can be swapped around quite a few ranks from their current position
on reaching the top 50 rankings will be more tight

I would have been REALLY surprised if Leffen wasn't 4th or even 3rd had he been able to properly compete all year. Oh well, 2017 is the year of the Leffeb.

I wish they would use commentators that don't force me to mute the stream. But then again, it's just so bad, I don't even bother watching and just check the results most of the time.

Even if he is the only person who doesn't like the commentators I don't see why he can't say so.
And for what it's worth I think most of the commentary has been super lackluster as well.

Even the players say that the commentators aren't good lol. It's like C- players casting Flash vs. Jaedong.
I think that some of them can be entertaining at times and do decent color commentary, though. It would be great if there was two streams, or one stream with two audio channels somehow. Until then, even if you don't like the commentary, I think that it is important for it to be there for the image and for the people just getting into the game and being like "wat dis."

TBH it must really suck to watch games like Dota or Starcraft, where none of the commentators are or (recently) were* top 100 players in the world. I guess it must be like watching D- players cast Jaedong vs Flash.
*going by the list of commentators at the Boston Major and the recent IEM.

I would think so too. Others, though, just don't bother to voice what they think and instead do something else. There are enough alternatives. (And apart from that, it's not like this section is especially active, so almost any post which leads to a discussion should be desirable.)
I don't understand why they think they can sell this commentary to a wide variety of viewers. Which normal, unbiased person would want to hear from commentators that M2K doesn't shower and uses "smelly strats" while the person talked about is actually playing a game?

We are talking about summit, right? I think it is less that the commentators are bad per se and more that summit commentating is different from standard commentating. I don't mind it most of the time, but some of the time I do find myself wishing that they would actually talk about the game instead of mafia or w/e.
