Lots of teams make changes in matchday 3 if they have qualified though.

its not just about rotation. germany with 2 wins has not much to play for and players would be wary of fatigue and injury. a germany that needs a result in their last game will definitely be more difficult.
all koreans were hoping for a germany 2-0 before the last game.

I think with the current rules, the main benefit of being able to rotate in game 3 is the yellow cards. You get suspended if you get 2 yellows in the first 4 games.
Having to play players who already got booked in one of the first 2 games, and asking them to play at 100% poses a huge risk of getting them suspended.

The most stunning example of why squad rotation isn't always great is the Eurocup 2008. Netherlands won against France and Italy (runner-up and winner of WC2006) in spectacular fashion (4-1 against France and 3-0 against Italy). They rotated the entire team against Romania and won 2-0 in the last group match...

... then they lost the quarter final to an unconvincing Russia, who in turn lost to Spain 0-3 in the semi-final.

Of course this isn't proof of anything, but it was the first thing that was mentioned. Talks were that swapping the entire team removed the entire 'flow' that the team was in.

edit: back when we still had good players :'(

I think it also "resets" the competitive spirit the team has gained in the previous two matches.

You need to be in full tournament mode the whole month if you want to win the whole thing.

Only exciting match of the day is starting soon. I mean, it has the potential depending on if the Koreans show a better form than in the testing phase.

Gosh, I just checked that Swedish lineup. I was expecting so much better... But this looks really underwhelming. But I guess their qualifier results speak for them.

Don't know how accurate it is, but I heard Sweden has good defence but weak offence, while Korea is the opposite.

Not really holding out any hopes for Korea here, so a tie would be enough to satisfy me.

Not sure if that was the reason. Hiddink just knew the Dutch team very well and was a way better coach than Van Basten. He made way better tactical choices in that game.
