If you are reading this, it is because you have noticed a change in the usual layout of the TeamLiquid forums. A new section has taken over the top spot. Read on, and I will tell you about it.
Why It Came To Be
It is no secret that one of the main strengths of TeamLiquid over the years has been its passionate and commited forum members. With our ever growing population, the invaluable contributions have increased as well, coming from many different sources. One of the challenges of administering such a busy forum is maximizing the time worthy threads spend in the spotlight, and making them available to those who may not visit as frequently. Our approach to the has been two-pronged.
For non-BW related material, LiquiScoop was designed to bring the casual reader the highlights of the past week. I think it is safe to say it has been a tremendous success, and even someone who visits as much as I do often finds things that I have missed.
However, for BW related material something else was needed. After taking into account the forum opinion on news posting (found in this poll) as well as the thoughts of other staff, it was decided to have a place where the truely special threads had room to breathe and the best contributors would be given a spot in the limelight without the burdens of being staff.
How To Contribute
There are two main ways of contributing to this section.
The first way is to create a great thread. There is a lot of flexibility in what constitutes a great thread, but they all have the characteristics of generating good discussion, giving information, and are a result of serious effort. Some examples would be: translations, battle reports, BW news items, good game VODs or replays, an opinion piece or weekly column, in-depth strategy posts, parody, and many more.
The second way to contribute is to point out a great thread that you feel deserves mention. If you see a thread you believe worthy of bumping, please PM me, Manifesto7, with the URL and why you think it should be promoted. I will be moving threads into the section myself, but I cannot read everything. My goal is to eventually have a user powered news where the best forum items are promoted on their own. This is the first step in the process.
So, if you have wanted to contribute before, but have been unable to find the right outlet, this is for you! If you are already contributing, then your work will recieve greater attention, and I hope it motivates you to keep up your efforts.
Stars
For the people who contribute extensively and have numerous threads promoted into the feature section, we have developed a star system. This system will add stars to a person's profile bar, indicating that they are a driving force behind the forums. An example is below:

Warning
This section of the forum is reserved for the highest quality threads, and thus the highest quality posts. I will be moderating this section closely. I hope that it can serve as an example for the rest of the forum on any topic. Needless to say that anything borderline or below will be dealt with.
Closing
I would like to thank Saro for making this happen. He does far more on TL than anybody knows, and it is under his watch that these improvements happen. Also, I would like to thank those people who post so well. It is your outstanding posting that made this a necessary addition to TeamLiquid. I hope you continue to burden us with your excellence.
I didn't know saro was an admin here for a long time, but it turns out he does a lot for this forum! We should turn this into a thank you saro thread instead!
Hehe, My_Digital_toss will have 5 stars in a week. I don't mind the feature too much, although i must add that lots of those standard downloadable forums have stars as well (although mostly awarded by post count), and it generates a power hierarchy that I'm not always very fond of. In a discussion, most people will automatically share behind the people with the stars (just like in lp ppl always mimic the high stakes players' opinions).
But props to Saro, he should really be sitting on one of the horses in the top banner.
This is what TL.net is all about. It evolves with time.
Now, I am getting to be jealous. Not all, but many Korean fans of SC communities take the sc progaming scene for granted, and lack in this kind of genuine support. The complacents never seek. It's really sad somewhat.
On the other hand, TL.net's member's eagerness to take part in the sc progaming scene, despite the language barrier, is fascinating, and even honorable. I am being sincerely moved by that passion, and that is one of the reason I am trying, just trying to do whatever I am capable of.

I'm actually really curious about this too... I mean, the things MDT posts are abolute gems and always a lot of fun, but do they belong here or in the Broodwar section?
I ask not because I have a perference either way (a lot of them are funny and I think it'd be nice to see them here), but because I'm curious what kinds of things constitute a "Featured Thread".

Great Work <3 Thx
There are no real set in stone rules about how threads will be promoted, because it is still a new feature. I think we will just see how it goes, and make adjustments on the way. Nothing is ever perfect the first time.
I just want to say thanks, as I returned home from a two day conference to find 8 suggestions in the in-box. Ill take a look at them all shortly, but it is nice to see some enthusiasm for the idea.
This is a good feature but I think it would be a good idea to leave a link to the thread in its original forum when moving them here, since it's not always obvious when a new featured thread pops up, making it possible to miss important news/posts (like the Garimto interview which I didn't see until the poll was made).
