An unorthodox win to be sure, but a win nonetheless.

Given the tough group, I really wasn't convinced he was gonna make it, but he channeled his inner MaSa to pull through . Gratz ! And the first place guarantees the easier side of the bracket imo, so it's going to be interesting.

What a great day by TY. We didn't get any signature games, but we still saw his versatility in handling all those uncommen game situations resulting from the proxies and fake-proxies. Against Stats he showed that sixth sense of knowing the balance of forces and attacked accordingly. I really liked how he prepared for this group given that this type of preparation might not be his strongest suit in general.

Mostly, that first game against sOs was brilliant. Having their history in mind, I think he completely turned the tables on sOs there. The excellent SCV micro to block the Immortal and kill it, using the Barracks to tank, landing it to screw up the Probe micro, etc. This is precisely what sOs excels at and what he always uses against TY. The smile on TY's face before the game and the frustration on sOs's after the game say it all. Demon slain :-)

This also means that the WCS standings are looking very good. A lot of competitors were eliminated this round, including sOs of course. As far as I can tell, TY is in if he beats Leenock.

He gets to focus on TvZ exclusively, and with Dark, herO, and sOs eliminated, he should have a good shot this time around!!

TY has great preparation, it's other issues that tend to let him down.

I don't know if that's entirely true, although you might say that it can be difficult to distinguish lack of preparation from the problem of believing deeply that you can't win. But some of the ways we have seen him approach matches against players like herO and sOs in particular do not really make one think that the preparation was all that good. For example, when herO does precisely what herO always does, and TY plays a game that does not seem to take herO's play style into account at all, I think there is an element of bad preparation there.

It may be the case that TY has excellent preparation for the game and the maps but has some problems preparing for the player.

e: By the way, what the hell is this deal with Maru always screwing up TY's schedule? His GSL match got moved up again! Doesn't matter much how good you are at preparation if there is no time to prepare

TY has issues with closing out series. He's also prone to making random mistakes when it matters most. I don't think he's lost more than one group stage in the entirety of LotV, yet when it gets the playoffs of any big event he seems to make random mistakes and become abnormally anti-clutch.

This was really obvious last year. Against herO in the IEM ro4, his preperation/strategy was fine, and he could have won the series at multiple points. Yet he lost his way half way through the match and threw all the leads he had from them onwards.

Same goes for Rogue in the blizzcon ro4, or soO in the GSL ro8 etc.
Zest, sOs, PartinG, Dark, and Maru are the real champs. ROOT_herO is overrated. Snute, Serral, and Scarlett are the foreigner GOATs

That is much closer to the truth. His map & match-up (TvZ, TvT, TvP) preparation is second to none, that's why he almost always looks incredibly strong in the Ro16 of GSL. But sometimes it doesn't seem specific enough, in particular with sOs and herO. Although this time, the things he prepared worked flawlessly for sOs.

Back to back semis. Against Neeb. Should be fine, but could become interesting.

Not too shabby at all!

Also, with today's win, TY is now qualified for Blizzcon! Congrats. This is the third time in a row, and he is still the only Terran to qualify for all LotV Blizzcons.

He can still theoretically miss Blizzcon if Neeb wins Code S.

How? TY is ranked 6.

e: yeah okay, if Neeb wins AND Gumiho takes 2nd, AND both Gumiho and Dark get more points than TY at super tournament #2. Very, very unlikely though.

or to say it in a more positive way, he has it all in his own hands,
if he beats Neeb he's safe for blizzcon.

and despite Neeb playing pretty damn well right now, TY should be the big favorite

He could even already be safe for Blizzcon before his match vs Neeb, depending on Maru vs GuMiho.

Back in the GSL finals!!! There was some uncertainty there for a minute to say the least, but he finally kicked into gear and destroyed the evil Toss.

Hype for the tvt showdown of the ages.

Oh and this means TY is actually qualified for the super tournament. It's already better than the last one.

Congrats! Well deserved. Glad he did it. TvP is a broken thing, right now, so it was deserved.
