So i came looking to join Rotti's fan club and it turns out he does not have one. So therefore ive decided to start one.
RotterdaM aka Kevin van der Kooi works for ESL TV as a caster along with MrBitter. He describes himself "Former Wc3 Professional Player. Passionate Feyenoord fan. SC2 Commentator. I may not always say the right things but my heart is always in the right place"
Rotti is a total boss, awesome caster with a conversational style and great analitical skills. Able to read the game and give high level thoughts and predictions. His combo with MrBitter produces some of the best commentary in Starcraft and there fun shows like Grass Is Always Greener are pure awesomeness and really so much fun to watch.
Prior to his casting career in Starcraft 2 he was team captain of Team Razor and joined the team alongside NaNiwa -link- The guy has some serious Starcraft skills and is on a Grandmaster Protoss Level in the EU and even managed to learn Zerg and get into masters level on camera on his show Grass is always greener. He has played with some of the best in the world and according to MrBitter has even beaten ogsMC in a PvP.
I think RotterdaM deserves some love from the community and thanks for his outstanding effort and contribution. Here's Rotti's TL Fan Club!
RotterdaM - "aw thanks ;D your post made me smile ^_^, I'll try to continue what I do and obv try to grow as both caster & player ;P, cheers "
Sign me the hell up. I love this guy. He makes me feel the magic of Brood War still. He has such a great attitude towards the game and his excitement makes me smile like a little boy. Best caster around, in my opinion. Love it!
I've got the pleasure of meeting RotterdaM at Warsaw EU Blizz invitational. And I've been enjoying his casts since the W3 thing GOM.tv organized a while ago. Sign me up, please!
Rotterdam08 i have to say that on your show the grass is greener, your choice of music and insulting of MrBitterTV were both top quality, I could have sworn you were Irish by the quality and pace of the insults flying, good good job. Also have to say, you should really have pumped John O'Callaghan a bit more, excellent DJ
Sign me up! I absolutely loved his WC3 casting and same goes for his work in SC2. For me he's the best WC3 caster and the 2nd best SC2 caster (sry that title goes to Artosis imo) that's not a pro-player himself and he's actually really good at playing despite focusing more on casting. Didn't he even beat MC once in PvP? Not sure anymore...
Sign me up here as well. Been a fan of his casting since his like forever (Blizzcon and WCGs if i recall correct) and the team with MrB is awesome. Never got to see him with Demuslim though Maybe u could add some facts about his Wc3 carrier in the Op
Ok guys. yeah i'll add some War3 bits and some Rotti pictures when i get chance next time. Feel free to post items for the OP and ill try add some. I just figured we best get this club started as RotterdaM fan club is well overdue it seems!
I used to think RotterdaM was a douchebag because he would always BM me. He said some bad thigns when I beat him and in another game in which he beat me he just BMed me for my race, before anything significant had even happened.
I asked him why he's such an asshole and he said "I'm not an asshole, I'm a nice guy who's sad". I felt bad, and I said "Sorry, I hope life gets better for you". He said thanks.
Rotterdam and Mr Bitter are a good casting duo. Probably my favorite casters outside of gsl casters/day9. Rotterdam is entertaining, analytical, funny, bit controversial at times (sometimes good sometimes bad) and unlike most casters these days actually a good player which definitely improves his casting and is worthy of respect for that dedication especially since casters have a lot less time to actually play.
I really enjoy Rotterdam as a caster. He seems like a really nice guy too, which comes through in his casting imo. Also, when a caster doesn't seem like he is uncomfortable with what he is saying, I find it more comfortable to watch. Enjoying this and his past casts that I've seen
Thanks a lot for the nice words guys, means a lot to me, also all the people who wrote in the IEM topic in general or just other topics, its really appreciated ~ I know I'm very lucky to be able to do what I want in life and make a living out of it but I'm also working hard on trying to make myself better in many ways, if it wasnt for people like you I wouldn't be doing what I do, loads of hugs, hopefully I can continue for a long time , I can also spoil that after New York I'll be practising a ton as player and you might see me participate in a major international tournament before the end of the year, not expecting to win it ofc ;D but I wanna show the world what only a small group knows, that I'm actually quite decent in this game ~
Awesome Rotti. Looking forward to seeing you compete! Take down some pro's for sure. You and Bitter did an amazing job in China and made the games even more epic and memorable with your casting, enthusiasm and knowledge. Good job man.
I want Rotterdam to start playing GAME and revive his glorious days as PROGAMER! I want to cry, becuase his crazy talent is slipping away with casting instead practicing to be at the top again!
Just imagine Rotterdam vs Grubby again. Oh man I want to cry for this.

I'm a fan of yours from Canada. We know what you're capable of as a player. I remember all those close orc mirrors vs Grubby. Your commentating is great too. gomtv invitational w/ Tod was the best casting duo ive ever seen in wc3 and you guys were amazing at homestory for sc2 as well. gl in casting and/or playing.

edit: a worthwhile post #100!
That is also exactly how I feel. Rotti's such an inspiring great passionate guy I love his casts with mr bitter; who would of thought opposites attract lol!
Damn I didnt know my favorite caster has a fan club in TL until now!
RotterdaM you are so good! Personally I watch IEM due to your casting. And you are definitely making a lot of progress in the past year. Always support you <3
Rotti u made it so much fun to watch esl-tv again, I'm a big fan since wc3 days! Keep up the good work and nothing would be more epic than seeing u compete on a professional level again, this time in sc2!!!
What I really really like about Rotterdam is that he speaks his mind, he won't let his co-caster get away with saying something questionable, and because he and MrBitter have good chemistry that actually just makes it more interesting and authentic. I'm used to only half-listening to commentators, but often Rotterdam will make such good points that I snap out of it and find myself really listening to what they say. Keep up the good work Rotterdam, you're one cool (and smart) dude!
It seems that there isn't a fan club for Bitterdam the casting duo, but I think these guys are awesome! I love their casting, IMHO they are on par with Tastosis and better than any other casters.
yea sign me up too, i have to give credit to this guy he's done so much in ESL and he's really a top caster, even tho sometimes i have some problems understanding what he says because of the accent, but he's really entertaining and well prepared!!
ah i shoulda joined this a while ago. ) always been a huge fan of Rotterdam during wc3 period. He is always so kind, remembering shortly after beta whene i watched him cast. I decided to chat with him on bnet and he happily chatted kindly with me during his cast. Awesome guy )
By far one of my favourite casters, up there with Wolf. It's a shame that he doesn't so many North American events. Europe shouldn't be able to keep him all to themselves.
Rotti sits right up with Tastosis as my favourite caster. Loving him casting WCG and he gave me some awesome insight into war3. Wold and Rotti casting is the best!
"I feel like such a pussy, I walk outside and all these Korean girls are walking around in short skirts and it's like -20" = Rotti "They're doing that for me" - Wolf
Rotterdam is one of my favorite casters, with Tastosis and Wolf. They're the only casters who are going to make me tune in to whatever they're commenting, regardless of players or event. I cannot honestly say the same for Day9, even if I still like his casting very much.
RotterdaM is funny and insightful at the same time, very good stuff.
hey guys. i think i know what would be a great nickname for rotterdam.
The Historian
admittedly it's not all that creative. but i think it has a nice ring to it and it also certainly applies considering rotti's encyclopedia like knowledge of all games ever played in any tournament.
Caught off guard by the camera when he (pretended) was reading forums during interviews, quite hilarious moment at the lone star clash :D Really cool and funny caster/guy by the way, I laughed so hard with his and mrbitter's whitera action figure thing..
You did a great job at the Lone star. I especially like the fact that you know your game statistics about who played who, and who won and when. It gives a inexperienced production like the "lone star" some sorely needed backbone and credibility.
You are making E-sports Better. :-) Take joy in that.
Sign me up! When I was at lone star he was so awesome I was scared to talk to him, but right before stog I worked up the nerve to speak to him I ended up telling him "Don't listen to him (points at bitter) you're super sexy!" I then grinned like a jackass. I think he said some like "thank you" while chuckling. that was my Rotterdam meeting story!
Rotti if you read this I'm curious of how you're doing now that you're in the states. Do you like it in CA? Any plans outside of SC while you're in the states?
To be honest there should just be a fanclub of the BitterdaM, these guys are like two peas in a pod and they are such a good combination. I remember one NASL week game were Rotterdam was talking about "alligators in California" That had me laughing a bit.
Last years european battle.net invitational was my first sc2 event ever to watch on stream. I wanted to see the WoW arena games, but because of some delay I watched sc2 meanwhile. At the end I watched the whole event and I really enjoyed it, especially because of the shoutcasters, Rotti and Mr. Bitter. Since then, I became a fan and watched many tournaments, but these two are still my favorite casters.

Just woke up, so not up to date with announcements. But if this is true it's such a dream coming true. Great respect for Rotterdam as both a caster and progamer, would be awesome to see him join the team I live and breathe for! <3
Love him so, awesome entertaining caster and high skilled player, dutch guy, readmore user... what else can i appreciate? Readmore fame ♥
When his stream goes online, i will be there. For sure! Rotti fighting! Rotti for Aiur! Rotti next GSL champion! Rotti for world domination! Rotti for president! ;D

Everyone has their different ways of playing and dealing with losses. If it helps to whine then let him do it. nobody is forcing you to watch his stream

It's a legitimate feedback to someone that makes money out of people watching him.
Rotterdam, don't forget that becoming an Elite protoss player requires practice, practice and practice. You got the skillset te become a good player for sure, just keep on practicing, with good practice partners, whenever you can !!!

I agree with you ^^, biggest problem with that is that some days I've just got moodswings, not always feeling that happy and it happened a few times that I streamed while just being in a bad mindset in general because of everything that happens outside of sc2, it was just silly to think I could stream some and feel good since most of the time when you're mind ain't there you won't play well and then I just get very whiny which has actually little to do with sc itsself, more with how I feel, I learned my lesson though, won't stream anymore in those situation, I know it's just silly to watch, guess you refer to 2 days ago, felt pretty bad about that, yesterday was a different story already, just played normal and felt fine, so I think it's a lot better to watch as well, not gonna say I will never be like aaaaaaaaa what did I do but I guess thats normal, it's silly to be very whiny in front of an audience, sry for that~

Its ok Rotti Im glad you take the time to read feedback and improve. I wish you luck in becoming a better player and love watching you cast
Great castor and commentator. Love his commitment to streaming. He's been on for 10 hours a day playing Starcraft 2 only. So many other personalities are playing other games more. Day 9, Nathanias, Incontrol are spending more time with other games. I'm honestly not that interesting in Dawn of war and some other games.
Darn good player also keeping between tier one master and grandmaster. A good Protoss player to learn from.
Regarding RotterdaM's comments during his stream of the global qualifier for Master's Coliseum 6.
I could not clip it due to channel settings, but RotterdaM said on stream people should shut up about the controversy surrounding Gamers8 and just enjoy the tournament. He then threatened to ban people from chat who asked if he meant the connection to Saudi Arabia.
I like RotterdaM, but this makes me feel very uncomfortable.
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1884678081 I guess we are talking about 2:09:50 . I think if you wanna write something like that you should be a little more specific and give context. I did not threaten to ban "people" . I spoke to 1 person in particular, who multiple streams in a row came in with the exact same comment. It's a man I've met IRL who interrupted multiple conversations during HSC ( around midnight when he had a few to many beers ) to talk to me about my lord and savior jesus christ and the devil + satan. When this 1 particular individual keep coming in with the same message about sports washing, yes I told him to stop. It was him, not " multiple people" . That was a 3+ hour stream with 1000+ viewers and a grand total of 0 people got banned. I think your message is pretty inaccurate. The only thing I told "people" is to move on at one point because not every single stream needs to be about the same topic, specially not when I'm casting a big online tourney, if I'm laddering it's kind of whatever, but if I'm doing my best to get people excited over a MC Qualifier, or specific players, I don't want it to be about Saudi for 3 hours straight, if that offends you it is what it is mate, but this is my job and I'll go insane if that's all what chat is about for multiple long streams in a row. I didn't threaten to ban people, just 1 guy, i only told people overall to move on and try to enjoy the games, big difference. The Fact that 0 people got banned kinda says it all I think.
I get that people feel conflicted about gamers8, Saudi etc and that's okay, I won't tell people how to feel or think. I also don't think every single stream or every game I play or cast needs to be about this topic now, it may have been the first time you stopped by but this dude came in with the same message 5+ streams in a row, eventually I obviously think it's annoying. I thought your message above was pretty unfair and inaccurate.

Hi RotterdaM, I understand you don't want to talk about Saudi sportswashing and the human rights violations of Saudi Arabia all the time. I respect that. The video statement recently released by the Team Liquid manager gave me a better understanding how difficult the situation is right now for people in the esports business like you.
You are correct in your assumption it was the first time I watched your stream when this person came in with the same message.
The moment that irked me was when you told off what I am pretty sure was a different person in your chat. If I remember correctly, you said "Drop it, I will ban you" when they asked about the topic again because they had missed the first part of your previous speech. Your annoyance in that situation is understandable given the context you described, so I don't view it as a big deal anymore. Thank you for the explanation of the context.
