Ah DRG wins so MVP places 2nd in the group.

Shame, was hoping he'd get #1 for the bye, he needs to get a bit of rest sometime.

Stephano = DRG wanna be by skipping banes and goes straight into infestor (or muta). MVP said where are your banes? Oh you don't have any? Ok maybe next trip to korea. Cya

Yeah, MVP is the final boss so long as he doesn't go mech on taldarim altar again. It was cool to start, and then far to lean on tanks and thors to work...plus you know, 20 minute walking distance =P

Very likely his Ro6 will be a TvT or TvZ though unless Naniwa impresses, so that's something

I think had MVP won MLG and the most recent GSL the fans would have a stronger bonjwa arguement since domination in starcraft translates to first place finishes in all the big tournaments, at least that's what I'm getting from BW fanboys.

Nevertheless, MVP is undeniably the best starcraft 2 player in the world currently. He'll have to finish below someone consistently for that to change, but no-one is consistently a higher finisher than him currently.

So regardless of Blizzard Cup results: congrats MVP. You are, in my eyes, the best player of 2011 in Starcraft 2 hands down.

i don't think really valid arguments exist at all in the bonjwa matter. MVP wins 50% or more of the tournaments he enters... i think that sufficed to make a bonjwa in bw (plus all the "succeeding during the dark times of a race, showing new ways blah blah might not all be fitting for him but he certainly is dominating and that's the main thing imo). by any standard he is undoubtedly the best player in sc2, by far. a tier above Nestea. if a sc2 bonjwa would exist, it's certainly him

but people love the bonjwa myth, they love bw history and lore and nostalgia, they love savior, the more competitive scene, etc. it's rather the unwillingness to use the word in terms of starcraft 2 since it's a fairly new game, in most of bw fans/players' mind it's not a worthy successor to brood war and even though i enjoy playing/watching sc2 i think it's a worse game too.

we should make up a funky sounding title for him. like the gjharhwahin of sc2;)

I think you should reread the savior article.

i remember it pretty well, i don't really see why you would tell that

iirc a bonjwa needs to win a few starleagues/consecutive etc, needs to dominate the scene, do so at the race's dark times etc etc. note that these actually aren't some kind of factual rules, the writer of the article had nice fantasy and wrote an article that is awesome to read but it's not some kind of knowledge carved into stone. people love this kind of shit

and MVP kinda qualifies as the most dominant/consecutive wins which is the most important about a bonjwa, doesn't he. terran won't have dark days ever anyway and i'm too lazy to look the other criteria up that was 50% guessed up by a random bw fan who wrote an article about savior. mvp just isn't a bonjwa cuz we don't use that word in sc2. remembering every single word that that guy wrote about being a bonjwa doesn't make you cool, and since it's not factual knowledge a linguist would just tell you that the word's meaning is what most people believe it is (language is that funky nowadays). i don't necessarily agree with that but guess what to 90% of people here bonjwa means the dominating player, which covers a part of it's meaning, and MVP is the dominating player.

but my point kinda was that he shouldn't be called bonjwa cuz ppl don't like to use that word in terms of sc2

Well, I didn't play broodwar and wasn't involved in the scene. But each bonjwa has a distinct feel to him, not good results alone. Even if one sc2 player would have won every possible tournament up until now I'm afraid he still wouldn't be a real bonjwa...

MVP is one of the best players in the scene for sure (maybe the best, I'm not to judge) but I think he misses the feel the BW bonjwa's have.

edit: but we shouldn't make this a bonjwa discussion

hehe absolutely

anyways, ppl were going around calling mc, nestea bonjwa when they had 2 gsl wins.

MVP clearly surpassed that, and not just slightly.for a few months he's been such a dominating force in sc2 that it is absolutely unmatched. the whole game lacks something to have such a great story around one player/playstyle as saviors or oovs... but we have a player now who has 5x the wins as everyone else and is the clear favorite in every single tournament he enters. i'm not even a rabid fan of him, but i recognize true power;)

MVP is utterly dominant, but SC2 should come up with its own mythos and legends surrounding players instead of relying on tired old BW cliches.

I just googled this. Bonjwa's not even a legit Korean word -_-;;

Which means it is up to TL to create a label for dominating players like Mvp.

I like his nickname of "The Final Boss". That's my personal "bestplayerintheworld" status since I'm a game dev and I only think in game terms haha.

So until I see someone who is more of a final boss, MVP is the final boss.

Besides, I prefer to think of MVP as Magikarp / Gyarados thanks to his opened mouth, whereas final boss can become another player at some point...maybe...

IMO he should get most valuable player 2011 no matter what. Nobody has been as dominant as him but I am rooting for MVP to win this blizzcup because its just so nice to see dominant players

imo, all these terms are silly

people are overlooking the most important one...

MVP

he lives up to the name, day in and day out. and because of that, i feel the term is twice as strong than just being called mvp for whatever reason

people have played off of it as well, such as:

the mvp of protoss
the mvp of zerg
the fuckin mvp

bonjwa, final boss, magikarp, etc. cool names, but seriously guys! mvp needs no other term, he's established with his own in every way
