I'm sure the solution to this 1-1-1 contain style is Phoenix play.
1) MVPs build relied entirely on air control to provide vision for tanks. Without it, he'd have to resort to scans (which he did anyway at times), which aren't reliable.
With Phoenix, MC could have prevented Banshees from entering his base.
2) MVP's contain relied on hitting a certain timing.
With Phoenix, MC could have delayed that timing by scouting it across the map and then picking off bits of it with Anti-Gravity, just like Mutas vs a Tank/Marine push.
3) MVP relied on using a Raven for PDD
With Phoenix, MC could have forced a PDD sooner, preventing the attack from being so strong.
4) MVP wanted to force MC to attack into the contain or die.
With Phoenix, MC could harass other places and annoy MVP and maybe prevent MVP from expanding everywhere like he did. Phoenix are fast enough to come back and defend.
5) MVP relied on MC not knowing the attack was coming.
With Phoenix, MC could have scouted the build and responded accordingly. ______________ Unfortunately, going Stargate has some BIG drawbacks in PvT. Firstly, it sucks against MMM. Marines slaughter all Protoss air units, and Stargate tech doesn't lead anywhere useful.
Secondly, it costs a LOT of gas. Could MC have managed to sustain a Stargate + Colossus production off 2 base while using Gateways to survive?
It is also very micro intensive. Obviously not a problem for MC given that he is the God of Protoss, but in lower leagues the 1-1-1 build, even delayed as it was here, would still be an issue.

mc is my favorite progamer plz add me, I also agree I want to see him race change I feel like protoss doesnt have the skill ceiling of other races and he would do much better at a different race.

Dude, I still believe in you...if ever you are reading this, can you go back to your former "killer" self and destroy all those terrans with your "attack when sensing weakness" build? I really miss all your victories...anyway, I'm still rooting for you! Don't give up! ^_^

MC your my idol. if there comes a day that i can play like you then i would love to play against you :D

MC go to MLG Raleigh! Secure your seed in the year end tournament

GSL August is basically over for MC at this point and going to Raleigh now will still guarantee him a spot in pool play. I mean, his up&down matches aren't until early September >.>

After not seeing him play for some long, I was very excited about his matches. Now I have to go another month without the Kratoss Protoss. -_-.

This made me fall from my chair. :D

Is anyone else disappointed that MC doesn't 4gate/6gate anymore because of his haters? Kinda sad and tired of seeing him get cheesed out (Bomber, Keen etc.) because he's going a safe economic build.
|
MC still feels he has to prove himself, having won his 2 GSLs mostly on timing attacks (come on, who didn't back then...) or just being far, FAR better than his opponents with macro. He wants to win a 'clean' GSL, working his way through the hardest opponents without resorting to timing attacks his haters feel are inferior to macro play.

Yeah, but being able to mix it up is a sign of a player with great initiative. I feel his PvT "weakness" is only because of this economic opening which makes his early game weak and extremely vulnerable to all-ins or pressure.

mc imba, he will find a way

He kinda looks like kim jong il :O

He lost to Revival too? He is definitely slumping. Hopefully its all mental because his mechanics are among the very best.

It makes me so sad how MC's results are turning out lately.
I have no idea if he's in a slump, playing too risky or not practicing enough (unlikely), however, regarding the fact that he just transitioned directly into double stargate voidray on three bases makes me consider the risky part the most. xD
Whatever, I am a huge huge fan, and I hope MC will work hard and show what kind of sick nerd baller he really is and underline that with some nice results!
GOGOGO MC!!! <3

Unfortunately, it's quite hard to say whether this is MC's own flaws, or one of Protoss in general, as many Protoss players feel that it is quite hard to stay economically equal vs a Terran or Zerg while still having the potential for pressure.

MC please come back and show those terrans who's the BOSS!!!

MC you should switch race. Look at Byun how successful he is now.

If MC can't discover the metagame shift in PvT to end BFH and 1-1-1 dominance, who can?
