If you look at streaming and ad impression for sponsors, its clear Huk is worth more than $50 per hour (which works out to 100k for yearly salary). Certainly, in any medium, youtube or justin.tv Huk could earn more that $50 per hour. Destiny was making 6500 per month 5 months ago when he showed his revenues. Huk can generate 200k impression per day... at $2 per 1000 impressions... thats $400 per day = $146,000 per year. And 2 is pretty meager.... in fact very meager. But on top of that Huk is a unique talent. He's young (something Boxer is not), and only going to get better. If there were an SC2 draft..... he would be the number 1 foreigner picked...... he's a sponsors darling. Young, hard working, well spoken and universally liked. Its the opportunity that having Huk on your team for the next spurt of SC2 growth brings. The best..... foreign.... player! A code S player..... Huk is the only one. So, he commands a premium.... and rightfully so. You have to factor in the growth of SC2. Huk, alone, can keep EG on top for another year and sponsorship market is only going to get bigger! Huk ensures EG the best shot at getting the biggest sponsors. There is alot of money in SC2... and its only getting bigger. i dont think you have any idea at all what players are worth.... starting with sponsorship money from companies like Intel, just how much do you think they give? all of EG's sponsors pony up for the Master's Cup. the total? 10 grand. not a all when you look at those involved. and im pretty sure that the Cup Barely breaks even revenue gained wise at the end of each one. not to mention that HARROWING process of getting new major sponsors.case in point, team liquid only having TLAF and Razer, but Razer sponsors half the other teams in the league so i doubt they give too much money(like Steel Series, im assuming) *one worthy thing of knowing about TL though, is that they make a killing on ads. google analytics had it showing that the site receives about 400k unique views a week(numbers may be off a lil, but its still ALOT) and the site is estimated to be worth like 4 million dollars. meaning they make alot of their own revenue, which makes them unique compared to most teams. next, look at contract payments that we know of. -Its pretty safe to Assume that team Luiquid contracts probably dont offer alot in terms of cash figures otherwise someone would be quoting salaries by now(the internet always finds a way) its obvious though that they cover living accomadations and flight travel and tourny costs, but what about dollar figures after that? probably not much, im pretty sure most of their spare money comes from streaming and tourny winnings and thats probably about it. - right after Fruitdealer won the 1st GSL, he was contracted for 32,000. more than any other player so far at that time( keep in mind, this was before sponsorships even for western teams were even going, yes i know western teams have more money than koreans now, but they didnt back then) and he won a GSL.(yes, i know he sucks now, but he didnt then and everyone loved him) -if the rumors were true, Grubby's EG salary was about 60,000, and comparing the success of each player, HuK doesnt even exist.(keep in mind, grubby made well over 100k in prize winning which he got to keep all of(this is common practice on most teams), so yea, he still made a lot.) -Flash makes roughly 280,000k by best estimates of last contract signing, making him the highest paid esports player of all time. why does he makes this much, just take a look here best player of all time, most wins, most money, most everything... and still going. -Boxer, Boxer's Ace salary(his highest one) was 200,000$. at his height, now comparing the two, you think HuK deserves 150k? as for streaming, Huk would make a lot from it(if the rumors around destiny are true, im a lil skeptical personally) but there is a monthly cap on what you can make( think its like 5k-6k a month). meaning 150k a year from streaming just wont happen. combine that with having to stream 8-10 hours a day. meaning he cant seriously practice. meaning he gets worse and gets passed up. now, weigh HuK, best he's done in GSL is the Ro16. not very good. after 9 monthes of work devoted solely towards that. he did the win the Homestory in Dreamhack, but he never had to play a korean period in homestory Cup and only had to play minor koreans in Dreamhack(July and Moon, compare that having to play Bomber/MC) so while those wins do give a gold on TLPD, arent as impressive as they could have been. now, on to popularity, no denying that HuK is a MEGA popular player. but read through LR threads and his fan club, and quite alot of it comes from being a TL teammate.(seriously, look at LiquidHero, noone knew(most still dont know) who he is, and he has a nerd army because of the liquid tag). and its thats been proven that even if you do horrible(like half the TL team) your still a star.difference between his fame and Idra? Idra sells everything without his team name, he just has to show up and nerds go wild. HuK doesnt have that. what is Huk worth? i cant really put an exact number on it. but its definately not anywhere close to what you would propose. Its not known exactly how much Day9 has made, but he said he used it all(or most) to pay for grad school. which is 2 years at USC is about 60k total. so i doubt even day9 has made more than 150k and lets be honest. theres only one sc2 player even as remotely popular/valuable as him, and its not HuK. | ||
