His approach to engagements seems to lack nuance--how many times have you seen Idra run all of his roaches into a protoss deathball just to get trapped by FFs and die? To me, it seems that the better thing to do with zerg is to commit just enough roaches to force FFs, then insta resupply, then repeat. When the protoss throws down FFs, the protoss is committing very, very valuable resources (energy), and the zerg must be able to resupply faster than the sentries recharge. Earlier in the metagame, Idra would set up very awesome surround traps (esp. on terran). But I think people have figured those out. In one engagement, a toss deathball wins. In five engagements, when a zerg has a functional total supply-over-time that is much higher than that of a protoss, a zerg is much more likely to win. Of course, there are a billion nuances within it all that I do not see, because I have not played at that high level. But in a very general way, it's just pure mathematics. I think Idra will grasp this eventually, and when he does he'll be fantastic at it. His brain just operates at a very abstracted, macro level (concepts before details) rather than in a details-before-concepts sort of way. (This is why he can explain absolutely everything when he commentates: what he knows, he truly understands.) With him I think the learning process takes longer, but he winds up with a more complete understanding than most. | ||
