This is pretty fun. Some good songs from fellow KMD members, although too much SNSD from everyone else.

Well, it was inevitable: the SNSD ranking (although it has been quite a long time; it used to be more often). So yeah... Hmm... I started with Yuri because she's so pretty, then I went Tiffany >= Taeyeon > everyone else.
|
Started Yoona (qt as fuck in Gee with the finger twiddling), but after watching more and more it was Tiffany. Always Tiffany in my heart. I sort of miss Redhead Tiffany, was really good in some pictures/videos.
SNSD rankings get somewhat boring because you know most people's bias (or lack thereof) if you've been here for any amount of time. But it's good community building, I guess.

It's always interesting to me how people's first pick switches around. I guess it has to do w/ promotion cycles as well, some promotion cycles make certain members look really flattering.
Also was on 4chan kpop thread, they were coming up with a fantasy league for kpop idols, pretty interesting, the main problem was preventing someone from getting Yoona, without some sacrifice. So some ideas floated around about using a budget system (each person is worth X amount of points), each player gets Y amount of plates (similar to TL's fantasy league).

If anyone can make PSY successful in America it's Scooter Braun. I mean he made Justin Bieber what he is today, and if he can do it with Bieber, then think about what he can do with someone who has actual musical talent like PSY. I really hope PSY is able to get America to open up to music from other cultures in general.

Try getting millions of teenage girls to fawn over psy.

I know 2NE1's tour wasn't huge, but they got around enough where someone could have picked them up for exactly that reason, or someone like Big Bang or SuJu.

It's partially the language and partially that boy groups exude a very feminine look. Friends who have been exposed to kpop have said this, hell my mom saw my sister's Exo-k and shinee posters and said they look feminine as well.
They'd be better off just forming a new, American boy group on their own, but as you see from top40 charts pop groups aren't all that popular anyway, theres no point. Why try to make a niche thing big when it's far more profitable to do what they had been doing.

Because the only thing that sets kpop apart from the masses of music in the west is that it is in Korean. Without korean lyrics it's just aping western music with pretty faces and synchronised dancing, but slightly behind the curve on western trends.
There simply isn't anything marketable about Kpop without it being Korean. If it was the visuals there would have been a lot more asian-american popstars. How many have their been? None that I can recall.

I think Vogrim hit the nail on the head. Though, I think it also has to do with cultural differences as well, Asians are also much more socially conservative, so slutty outfits are usually far more a "no-no", also include song topics are also a lot more conservative as well. But that's part of the appeal to me though. I just don't see kpop spreading into western world anytime soon. Though we could see a shift in music industry to more of the Korean approach, where the company markets out idols, rather than artists.

Kpop outfits are conservative? Korea seems very split on this as Rainbow didn't get to show bellies in A yet there's underage girls strutting their ass in shorts/skirts on TV. Guys 30+ oogling 17-19 year olds on variety shows... (yeah i know it's all for fun but still weird)

Linzy > Jei > Cheska > Yezi > CaoLu = Hyemi
Their profile descriptions are pretty funny. Jei is "Boyish face leader", Cheska is "Owner of the same 4 dimensional personality as IU". I also was not aware that Yezi was the Maknae of that group. '94, jeez.
I cannot count how many times I've listened to/watched Vista. What is it about that song?

I'm surprised you ranked cheska so highly, she didn't look that great with that frizzy hair in Vista, maybe I'm missing out on some great pics of her?

You tell me because I can't see/hear it. I really don't understand why it's being hyped.
