There's also a good amount of comedy and romance (which I don't think Major has - only read some of it though). Of course, baseball is still pretty central (getting to the Koshien), but what makes the anime and manga really good is not the baseball parts.
Very good anime, I definately recommend it.
I think you hit it square on the head. It's heavily character-driven and it's rarely just about the baseball. It serves more as a medium.

Mmm...I'd agree that Eden of the East is one of the better animes this season, but the latter episodes aren't as interesting as the first few ones.

saki is good. needs more mahjong though Haven't watched Saki yet (apparently she needs tacos?) but Akagi is a great mahjong anime.

Akagi manga first set was hilarious. The drawing is really different from a lot of the stuff you see.

I almost flipped out during the most recent episode of Eden of the East when + Show Spoiler +that bitch grew wings and shit. I was like "oh no, you're getting super natural junk into my conspiracy animu." But then it turned out it was an illusion, so I calmed down.
Really really hoping that they don't ruin this anime with the ending.

I'm really liking Higashi no Eden. I still think it maintains an air of mystery... though we know a bit more about what's going on with the game, we're still grasping straws as to what's going on in the Selecaos' minds. It's a pity it's only scheduled for 11 episodes. The finale damn well better not be a let-down.
I liked K-On in the very beginning but somehow I lost interest around the beach episode. I guess I was hoping it'd either be more gritty like Beck or more humorous like Lucky Star or Minami-ke. Reading the 4-panel comic before watching the anime might've contributed to my waning interest, too. But honestly it needed to be funnier. Charm alone is not very charming.
I was also watching Koukaku no Regios earlier this spring, but I stopped watching that as well. It just felt like the hero had no intention of becoming a badass, so I got bored. Let me know if he decides to use a katana. Felli was definitely cute, but again, charm alone doesn't sustain my interest.
I'm lazy and don't really like to keep up with a lot of series, but I'll try to watch some of the ones people recommend here. Though I really should be playing Brood War instead...

They're the same style of eyes Kagami has. Kagami won saimoe so I guess that style is pretty popular.
As for K-ON I watched a few episodes then stopped I would have loved it a while back when I was really into anime (and spending tons of time on /a/ etc), but now I need something else with my moe.

My friend helps null scanlate saki, so he's been trying hard to get me to watch it, but I haven't gotten past more than the first episode. If it was done by kyoto ani then it would probably end up better than K-ON though lol.

That one was good. It was an extra after Clannad Season 1.

I think he's starting to use it, just watched it last night lol, and I forget already.
Regios has a meh-storyline, but Felli is awesome, and Fon-Fon alternates between Suzaku-lameness and Kazuma-awesomeness (of Kaze no Stigma)

Stryker should edit his post on the previous page. It kind of ruins the ending for people who haven't seen it yet. I know it has a spoiler, but that spoiler is completely unnecessary, and a lot of people just click them anyway. *Idiots like me*. I've seen the show so it doesn't effect me, I just really think spoilers are evil.

my pick for the season ,
valkyrie : nicely draw , realy good story about 2 army fighting
eden of the est : strange story , about one boy who lost memory but alot more to the story .
phantom : this one realy crazy , when the main character kill some 8 year old boy , that very nice!
guin saga : army fighting , not bad so far
tear of tiara : also about 2 army fighting , the anime from some rpg game .
bassquash : basket and robot = cool
new full metal alchemist = very good animation , good so far too .
that all my watching this season , for me the rest are just crap or not realy interesting .
anyone who love anime should check this list out !
