I don't explicitly remember that happening.
+ Show Spoiler [Madoka 6] +I checked episode 1 and 3 for evidence of Mami's Soul Gem getting destroyed. We never see it on screen, but her magic dissipates as her head got chewed on. Since every magical girl so far had her Soul Gem somewhere on her body in her transformed stage, I think that Mami's Soul Gem was the jewel on her hat. Since that hat got crushed and chewed on, that might be the reason why she has been killed.
If she hasn't, remember that the dimension collapsed afterwards as Homura killed the witch. Which means that she might be alive. But trapped forever in that alternate dimension, now without an exit as a soul gem, lying next to the chewed remains of her body. + Show Spoiler [Madoka 6] + Then Madoka is the biggest troll in the world. Why is Mami in the OP if she dies by number 3? -____________-x It's a bit sad and depressing.
But I almost thought I heard her voice in the preview for the next episode. O_O
+ Show Spoiler [Madoka 6] +Wait, who speaks the next episode title in the preview in episode 6? It doesn't sound like Mami, Madoka or Sayaka (who were featured in previous previews).
It seems that the characters that the next episodes will focus on are reading the previews. Except for Homura.
For comparison: - Ep1 had Kyuubey, Madoka, Sayaka with Madoka reading the episode title for episode 2 - Ep2 had Mami - Ep3 had Sayaka - Ep4 had Sayaka again - Ep5 had Madoka - Ep6 had Kyuubey, but who reads the next episode title? The previews are a line from the next episode read by the character that says that line.
And I'm also puzzled by who it is for next episode, hrmm.
Also, for everyone who hasn't looked it up already: + Show Spoiler +

You are right. That was probably far to obvious for me. -.-
Edit so that I don't have to double-post:

PM I sent to Ferrose regarding this. + Show Spoiler [Madoka 6] +Original Message From TimeOut: Well... The Walpurgisnacht is not just a festival or a witch cleansing rite.
There are also two chapters from Goethe's Faust that are titled Walpurgisnacht. The following is based on my loose memory and the short wikipedia article, so it might be wrong in parts: Another scene between Faust and the Devil, wherein the Devil tries to tempt Faust again, because he started to ignore the temptations earlier in favor of Gretchen.
For that purpose, the Devil prepares a great festival on the Witches' hill, but in the meantime there are some tragic elements too, because Gretchen kills her child.
But I won't read through Faust again (far too much work) just to confirm this, so I have to work with secondary sources on the most part.
I think it is far more likely that they put in the reference not only because of the actual festival, but because of the literary connotations between Madoka and Goethe's Faust. Original Message From TimeOut: Probably. At least they kept most of the themes intact, and even named some of the on-screen titles directly after chapter titles in Faust. For example Madoka's dream in episode 1 had the runic title of "Prolog im Himmel 2011" which is the original title of the Faust prologue (except for the date, which probably hints that this is a modern adaptation of the source).
That the witches and the runic script are based on German characters and direct quotes from the play is another clue.

Yes, I believe tomorrow is Thursday. Wait...no the day after? Damn it, Madoka, you ruin my entire week waiting for the next episode.

+ Show Spoiler [madoka 6] +Wow, i thought for sure that Sayaka was gone. That was epic. Madoka is a little annoying but that makes it better, i think. Kyuubey is soo blunt sometimes. Lmao when they find out the truth its like they got smashed by a boulder emotionally. Lmao

Wow, I never even noticed all the references. Now things are really making sense! I can now say I am officially hooked on Madoka.
+ Show Spoiler [kyubei] + I figured Kyubei was being a bit more reticent in discussing the finer details in the first place. I think he's much more of a neutral player than anyone in the show realizes. Somehow I feel like he has his own agenda and has only been playing nice so far because nobody's figured out that he's manipulating events...
And I'm finished LoGH5 (and I'll be watching more tonight), and I'm being rather quickly drawn in to that as well.

Everyone was pretty damn pissed off about it or they cried their brains out.
Except Homura, who probably knows everything.

IS + Show Spoiler +So, France's breasts triple in size when shes naked or has the harem dictates, AND I STILL DIDN'T GET MY FUCKING REVOLVER STAKE GOD DAMNIT THAT WOULD BE THE PERFECT WEAPON TO OWN ICHIKA WITH. Maybe next episode.

Homura probably knew about it, given how she almost instantly chased after the gem.
+ Show Spoiler [madoka] +No, then she would've stopped Madoka. She knows of the importance of the gem, but probably not of the event itself.

+ Show Spoiler [homura and speculation] + I'm wondering exactly what they mean by "irregular" when they refer to her, but I'm going to guess that she gained her powers in a different way (not that it's much of a leap there). I just read an article speculating that she may be on the brink of becoming a witch (doubtful, in my eyes) or that she may have had her contract revoked.. Somehow I think it's something else. But the article did point out that Grief Seeds are very similar to Soul Gems, and if we understand that using magic muddies a Soul Gem, and a Grief Seed can absorb that, that could explain the original genesis of the Witches.
If that is the case, then there is the possibility that Witches were the intended consequence of the magic in the first place, or that they were a completely unintentional consequence, and that the current state of affairs is a long way away from how the magical girls were intended to be (I like that idea better). I'd like to think that the witches that are fallen magical girls were basically the magical girls who used their magic for selfish things, rather than to help people, and that there is some way to use magic in a positive way and therefore have some redeeming qualities to being a magical girl in the first place (even if it only involves using your with for helping someone else, I think that could technically count on that front).
In any case, I'm now very interested in where Madoka's going.

Haha, yeah, I think they could do a bit better with how Madoka deals with things.... Her reactions don't quite mesh properly... It's not enough to bother me, because they do such a good job of presenting it, but I can see that someone who doesn't absolutely love the show would likely point that out.

So obviously France + Ichika > Germany. Ichika is supposedly the best when he gets serious. His suit is pretty OP as well. So, Ichika > Germany. Supposedly he's really good at tactics or whatever. I guess plot armor would be a good description after all. While I agree that having more fights would be awesome, I'm not opposed to the harem elements, especially since there should be a ton of France in upcoming episodes. Some extra thoughts: Ichika blushed when France thanked him. Ichika wanted to know why France wouldn't change with him. Ichika barges into the shower when France is in there.
Nobody in this harem's gonna win if Ichika swings that way. <_<
Edit: Rewatching this ep just because. I could listen to Kana Hanezawa all day.
Madoka's reaction to the events she's been exposed to might be frustrating to watch, but it's realistic. Do you seriously think that a girl her age would be able to watch somebody die and still remain resolute?
|
I think that Madoka's reaction and characterization is great. She acts in a realistic way and you can see how much she cares about the people around her. Makes me sympathize with her even more.
|
Madoka is a little annoying as in, her ideals or w/e solving anything without fighting, not her reactions.

The design is just meh. IMO they should have called it the Hyaku Shiki and made it gold, rather than being white/ByakuShiki.
Design wise, Strike Freedom and Alteisen-tan are my favorites, which is why I'd like to see more pew pew from them.

Sure, Madoka may seem annoying, but her character is a girl coming from a comfortable school life into a world where death is around every corner. The worst part is that it's not like it didn't exist before; she's now just aware of its existence.
The fact that she can't leave it alone is a testament to her courage and compassion, + Show Spoiler +but at the same time she isn't willing to essentially give up her own soul for it .
I think the source of all the "annoying" stuff she says is an innate desire for things to return to the time when she was unaware of the witches, but it's not like she's naive enough to genuinely desire ignorance.
She wants to keep the peace and respect human life at the same time. Who can say that's an annoying thing to desire?
I think the writers are handling her character very well.

Yea i agree, i know that its realistic, but it just irritates me when they act like that, not just madoka but also other main characters in other animes.
