Was it ever fully subbed, or was there just not enough interest? Do I have to learn japanese to watch the rest of it?

Do I have to learn japanese to watch the rest of it? Unless the license was terminated as well, they are still the licensee. I wasn't able to find direct confirmation on that, but it is still listed as licensed on various sites. The only new fansubs I could find were for episodes 1-8 by ARR. Apparently the show was fansubbed when it first premiered, but the groups dropped it (groups I could find that did F-Zero: Miyuki and A-M) after a few episodes. Edit: So a complete fansub seems very unlikely, at least for me. It might be possible that there is one somewhere hiding in the depths of IRC, but I wouldn't count on it.

Yeah I found a few dead links to pdfs showing 4kids dropping the licensing but nothing substantial. Thanks for your help though. So I liked the first few episodes, is the rest of the anime horrible or do I just have strange tastes?

The tragic scenes are tragic, the plot twists were very well executed, and the ending was reasonably satisfying. It was also nice having a main character that didn't suck and who wasn't completely dense. All in all, it was a pretty good manga. + Show Spoiler [Awesomeness] + hurray somebody listened to me

I downloaded it a month or two ago from bakabt (freeleech ftw), but kinda set it aside since I had so much other stuff to read/watch. I actually forgot all about it until I saw a recommendation for it (the same thread where Onani Master Kurosawa was recommended to me, incidentally). But yeah, just judging from the info on MAL, this manga seems kinda underrated which is unfortunate since it's actually good. I still don't understand what this show is supposed to be about. I mean, I know it's a magical girl anime, but what the heck is Subaru involved for?

However, they seem to keep referring to a scene where shinji wakes up on a beach beside asuka, and proceeds to begin strangling her. i never watched this scene, and i had the directors cut (so it wouldn't be censored or anything). i wonder why i missed it. anyone have thoughts on the series on a whole? you probably didn't watch the movies. This scene is from "The end of evangelion" movie.

I really hope that the subbers meant to say "Who is that?" and not "What is that?" Because I don't think Yang is racist D: + Show Spoiler +

For the screen shot in question, maybe it meant something about his size? That character is someone who is basically one of the largest/strongest non-Rosenritter people on the Alliance side (or at least I think it is).
