I've been waiting forever for a loli capture, and when I get one she ends up being a horrible loli You talking about Akari? Yeah, her arc was kinda terribad. The twist is the only good part. I told you all the good girls were done. Reiko was a loli. Kinda. And I think Mio sorta counts.
Reiko appeared for like one chapter though. And how is Mio a loli? She's definitely developed, and is 16(?). The only loli trait I see her having is her height.

It's definitely an anime you need to think about to get anything out of, but I find its portrayal of a society that has online interactions steadily replacing real world interactions fascinating and compelling.
Edit - and watch it on coalgirls blu ray release, which is by far the best looking version out there. My brother watched it on youtube D:

Is EF a tale of memories any good? I watched a bit of it a long time ago but didn't really continue... I also don't know how the VNs go, if that matters, and I like the "new-style" animation (as opposed to conan or something like that)...!!
I need something to occupy me so I won't go on a random, Internet-browsing, multi-hour rampage every day (i.e. watch a few eps and stop wasting time)... ;__;

It's nothing amazing, but it's definitely worth a watch. Just keep in mind that SHAFT has a pretty unique/different style.

Uhhh any general "modern" recommendations, then? I sort of stopped watching anime a while back and currently only read manga :/ They don't have to be super-recent or anything like that.
Thanks! :3

What genre(s) do you like?

Anything works, really! I'm the sort of person who will like anything as long as it's good (which is terrible because I'll browse the Internet reading about stuff I have no business being interested in--and I'll read about it extensively for only one day, etc., okay I'm getting offtopic >\\\<)...
Point being, I'll really be open to anything! Preferably something more along the lines of a poignant/profound anime, and not a pure comedy and/or ecchi one.
Edit: saving 1k post because I'm just that kind of poster, so
You want poignant and profound?
School Days. Poignant: Teach guys that they may regret if they take the wrong step. Profound: Happy, colorful opening. Sad, dark ending.
Been there, done that.
And may I say I don't want to watch an anime like that

Anyone know what happen to the subbing of the last episodes of the Break Blade / Broken Blade OVA? It seems they stopped on 2 and never did the rest

The third DVD for the movie is going to be released on 1/28/11. So it's not the matter of subbers not subbing it, but that the source isn't out yet.

And may I say I don't want to watch an anime like that Spazer posted some great charts a while ago, which desperately need to be added to the OP. If you're looking for more recent stuff, here's a "best of the year" chart for the past decade:

And Ef was kinda mediocre imo.

FMP book 1 was written in 1998. Remember when airline security was a tenth as strict as it is now? Also, he carries a ridiculous amount of stuff. I think there's an episode in Fumoffu that shows exactly how much.
|
FMP just has Sousuke getting away with carrying a freaking ton of weapons as we write off the disbelief on accounts of him being secretagentman.
On the matter of LNs, just finished Bungaku Shoujo gaiden vol 3, that concludes the gaiden series. Nano is amazing, she actually got a whole short story written by Konoha 0_o (in comparison, Touko gets a 3 part novel, Miu gets a a novel, Nanase gets zilch [poor girl])

Stuff I've watched in the last days or so:
a) Finished FMP: Fumoffu. Really funny, but in some cases slightly overdone. A Goddess comes to Japan 1+2 were by far the best episodes (Tessa <3), only rivaled by the bio-weapon attack, maybe (no Tessa ). I haven't started Second Raid yet.
But yes, the scene where Sousuke was instructed to drop all his weapons was great.
b) Started Lucky Star. I had this one on my disk for some weeks already, but for some reason I never watched it. It's really strange, but you can't stop watching... and I'm scared how many comments and references I get (although most of them seem to be for KyoAni stuff). For everything that I don't get, there is a huge list online, also helpful.
I can't get the opening song out of my head.
c) Continued with Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu. I know that I've watched some episodes earlier this year but I never finished the series. It's a decent and funny anime, but I'm not a huge fan of the nosebleed-fanservice-comedy style. Hideyoshi is always great though.
For the new season, I watched Rio: Rainbow Gate ep1 yesterday. Uh... It could be worse, I guess. As expected of a slot machine spin-off anime series, it's mainly fanservice and gambling. Gambling with superpowers in this case and in a really really freaking huge casino complex, but still, nothing that really stands out. Art and animation is not that bad, so at least it's watchable if you really need a fanservice show.
Edit: I forgot that I read The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-Chan manga too. Really funny and interesting so far.
