So when Kazuma tells Aqua what to do before talking to the counter lady he's like "well, we have to find the guild and become adventurers. They'll provide us with starting equipment and some gold to get by. That's how these games work" (or something along those lines), she's impressed, he then obviously doesn't get any of that, the counter-lady even asks him to pay a fee for the registration (duh) and they're stuck which leads to Aqua asking the Priest for money.

They did mention it but just not as clearly as I wish they would have. They also left out the "there's 3 counter-lady's employed. 2 short lines and one that has a lot of people queuing. We'll take the long one because that lady is pretty" or whatever it was

Or the whole part about them having to work on a construction site for days (weeks?) because they need to get at least some money to buy a sword never mind armor to actually do adventurer quests.

TL;dr: nothing's working out as smoothly as Kazuma expected it to from the games he knows. He's clearly not some OP guy who's the MC of some game who can run around with his amazing stats and shout FIREBOLTO as he onehits everything. He has to work on construction sites like normal people to get money and sleep in the stables because he's too poor to afford even the cheapest, most shady bed around
