Seems like I'm going to enjoy this season a lot. Already lots of good stuff out and there's some more good stuff coming, definitely better than last season.
Iirc I haven't watched a generic battle harem yet this season, did I just skip them or aren't there any (yet)?

Sounds as generic as battle harems get:
Lux, a former prince of an empire named Arcadia that was overthrown via a rebellion five years earlier. Lux accidentally trespasses in a female dormitory's bathing area, sees the kingdom's new princess Lisesharte naked, and incurs her wrath. Lisesharte then challenges Lux to a Drag-Ride duel. Drag-Rides are ancient armored mechanical weapons that have been excavated from ruins all around the world. Lux used to be called the strongest Drag-Knight, but now he's known as the "undefeated weakest" Drag-Knight because he will absolutely not attack in battle. After his duel with Lisesharte, Lux ends up attending the female-only academy that trains royals to be Drag-Knights.

+ Show Spoiler +Well, I think it wasn't shown on screen, as said I was distracted, but they got captured and the screen went black with a gun shot sound. So I figured they shot her, because she tried to flee or something, following Theodor's behavior later.

That said, the link even says in title that it's just fleshing out the lore for the series. If you want the fresh experience, then you don't have to read anything.

I disagree strongly with this.
I wouldn't have wanted to watch fate/zero before reading FSN. I wouldn't have wanted to watch diebuster without having watched gunbuster. And so on, there are plenty of anime that you could watch without watching/reading what came before(I mean shit i had a friend that watched carnival phantasm without knowing anything about the nasuverse), but i personally prefer to watch it in the intended order. If it however is a completely unrelated spin-off then that wont matter.
And while yes that link does indeed say that it's just gonna explain the lore briefly, that's not at all what i was asking about. I didn't want to quickly learn what the franchise was about, i wanted to know if it was best to wait until i have read/watched what came before it in the franchise.

All personal preferences really. I watched F/Z before reading the VN and it didn't ruin anything. Then again I also don't care if people spoil shit since that has 0 impact for me on if I enjoy something or not. To others it is important but not for me~

+ Show Spoiler +His sister wasn't shot. She was taken by the Stasi. He was reminded of her by Katia. He wasn't really forced to join the "enemy", Theo is an East German too. His family was kept from defecting to (I assume) the West, and he was thrown into the army.
As said before, it probably isn't necessary to have read or watched any prior Muv-Luv stuff to watch Schwaresmarken, since it takes place like 15 years before eveeything else. I'd be more than happy to answer questions about the setting if anyone needs some 'blanks' filled in for them.
