The first is Shiro. Its been a very long time since I've disliked a character as much as her. Couldn't they have figured out a better way to use a loli like her? Anime already figured out what to do with annoy lolis all the way back in 1982, so why couldn't they just somehow figure out how to do something like this with her: + Show Spoiler +
Suggesting she should have gotten her head blown off is me being facetious, btw
Second great annoyance was the fucking red outlines and red shading on everything. Why does anime do this occasionally? Its like it was constantly trying to burn my retinas out with bright colors. It made it hard to enjoy the fanservice.
All that said, I still enjoyed it more than those two things annoyed me.
The red outline and shading is the director's specialty/quirk. She does that a lot.
Sure is an annoying quirk. Do people actually like that style?
I did. Wouldn't go as far as to say it's my favorite part about the show but I really liked that in particular. Same for Saekano + Show Spoiler [pic] +
and Oreshura (now looking back on it). But it was a bit odd ep1. Nowadays if I see stuff like that I'm just instantly sold on the show for that alone, which is one of the reasons I was so hyped for Saekano. iirc that series had the same director (or whoever makes that decision) as OreShura which did the same but with more pale colors?
As for Shiro, I'd agree on that. Easily the weakest link in NGNL anime. Only one more annoying is that stupid (literally) mermaid.
Wow, you really need to get your eyes checked out. First One Piece is "eye cancer", and now the atrocious red outlines in anime are something you really liked?
well i sorted out the yuri for you this season nswf pv + Show Spoiler +
look there is literally 0 fucking loli this season except for Hidan no Aria AA which may qualify (had a glance of the 2011 version and she looks real nice)
On matters of anime teasing and only being adds for the source, Akagi live action ended yesterderday and I just watched the last one. Not just anime doing that:
Seriously? You just don't show the last 2 hands and that's it? Yes the arc isn't finished in the manga, I get that but please... what is that ending...
[21:08:09] <Toad|> don't tell me akagi ends on cliffhanger as well [21:08:19] <Toad|> only 4 minutes left [21:08:23] <Toad|> still 2 hands to go [21:09:17] <Elemonade> :⁾ [21:09:28] <Elemonade> :⁾⁾⁾⁾ [21:11:03] <Toad|> wtf [21:11:05] <Toad|> is that ending [21:11:21] <Toad|> they just don't show the last 2 hands? [21:11:32] <Elemonade> it was all just bait for the manga [21:11:36] <Elemonade> and i fell for it [21:11:36] <Elemonade> orz
Just saw this after the Drifters Trailer that was posted before:
I didn't expect such a quality animation from Wit Studio. I assume they actually got a budget for this and hired some talent for key animations or something. It really surprises me. lol

Uhh, that's a movie. That level of animation is expected

Well, yes and no. Obviously I expect it to be better than a series. But I also just watched a bunch of other movie trailers and pretty much all of them looked...average to horrendous. I mean, take a look a the Ajin trailer for example. What is this trend doing low budget cgi character model animation? It looks so bad and irritating, especially in a 2D environment. So I didn't go into movie trailers and suddenly expect good animation. Especially not if it's a studio like Wit.

Ajin is by polygon pictures which is a 3DCG animation studio. Everything they do is like that. They did knights of sidonia.
Wit is known for having good animation in the beginning and then having it blow up later in the series (SNK, Rolling Girls, Owari). A movie should be far easier to do especially when it all gets completed in 1 go and has a lot more time for production.
Everytime one of the 'good' guys almost die, I scream, hoping that he/she actually dies. Nope. This is a war where everybody die, except the good guys.
Also, I forgot about the elements of magic before watching this episode... yea dark magicians + Ferengis being protected from arrows, bullshit.
Everyone lives, the soldiers lives don't seem to matter, Narsus always wins and the "final" battle vs Hermes he doesn't shown any prowess as a commander and just plans to win with "1v1 me bro" strategy. I'm still enjoying it, but it's not very satisfying with it's war elements, Kingdom does a much better job at medieval warfare even though the commanders in that are even more super human than Arslan.
If you wanted more medieval warfare from Arslan check out Kingdom and for politics/strategy LoGH.
Please, I remember telling people who wanted stuff like that to watch LOGH way back when Arslan started, and no one cared. I think they just want to watch something they would be able to complain about.

what was wrong with NGNL? Sure, the animation could've been better and they could've changed Shiro's character a bit more, but, it was quite the fun anime to watch. It's nowhere near as terrible as you make it out to be.
I don't recall the actual animation in NGNL being an issue. And in order to make Shiro not be a complete pile of shit, she would have had to be more than just a "bit" different. She is fundamentally shit down to her very core.
Pretty much, the better characters were def not the siblings. Sora was fine on his own but the whole sister thing really dragged him down. Honestly if the show had concentrated more on the stuff that made it interesting and less on silly otaku pandering it would have been a lot better.
The main problem with this show is that it's far too straightforward. Stuff is blatantly foreshadowed 10 episodes in advance. Plot threads get resolved in a fully predictable manner.
I've mentioned it before, but Narsus is a literal tactical and strategic god with no counterpart. It's boring as hell.
Things lack nuance. The Lusitanian guy (now girl) is the most egregious example of this. Her views are so hardcore that it's impossible to take her development seriously. When the whole "oh my god Arslan killed my lord" bit happened this ep, I just rolled my eyes. Surely there's a better way to continue the plot than with the most contrived of misunderstandings.
And, of course, with the girl reveal, I guess it's time for romance.
One thing LoGH got right was the balance between characters of the two sides. For every Yang, Poplan, and Schenkopp, we get a Reinhard, Mittermeyer, and Oberstein. They are all distinct, memorable characters who are likeable in their own way. Contrast this with Arslan: I can't name a single character on the Lusitanian side that I actually like. Hermes is the most important opposition Arslan has, but he is clearly portrayed as a massive dick. The viscount was okay, but he gets zero screentime. Bodin's just a madman.
I have no real complaint about magic existing in the world. However, their usage of it thus far has been utter bullshit. It basically boils down to plot convenience.
There's also some weird stuff that ends up having zero plot relevance. What was the point of not killing Xandes the first time around if he just dies in the rematch without any new developments? Why did they bother showing Kubard rejoining Arslan when he's not integral to the story? Was there actually a point to the whole Sindura arc aside from recruiting Jaswant, who has done nothing?

It's enjoyable trash. That doesn't make it a good show as people seem to have put it as. The animation was fine really. Don't see an issue with it. It's just a dumb pandering show that can be enjoyable if you like that kind of thing. Really it's just a symptom showing exactly what kind of show the general anime base views as "good" and one that was being currently discussed.

it was insanely pretty and had a great waifu (what do u mean change her some more?) and a couple of good episodes and a cool theme and cool mc and trump likes it and the dialogue was fine.
it was pretty shallow for my tastes tho (specifically everything to do with the 2 other girls) and i almost dropped it at the start.
i just gave it a 6/10 which is what i gave gantz and hack/sign and i guess is my "i liked it but it wasn't that great tbh" category
btw i thought imouto means childhood friend wtf? i could be saying imouto a lot more than i do
