It's kind of interesting to be honest.
Often the anime fans complain about contrived sequels (*cough* Gundam SEED Desinty *cough*) where things get randomly made up; but for A/Z I think it's quite the opposite: the writers were probably overachievers who wrote too much material/characters (see my Klankain and Mazuurek discussion above on why they could have been the same character) for the franchises and most of these probably ended up getting dropped, leaving (IMO) a very unsatisfactory ending.

I personally think AZ would have been a lot better if it had another 12 episodes.

Asseylum isn't a well-developed character in A/Z. I think there just wasn't enough room to fit all of these characters into 24 episodes.

Aldnoah Zero was always planned for 2 seasons. Urobuchi Gen only came up with the concept and draft, and maybe wrote a few episodes, but he did not direct or write the series as a whole. His initial idea for Aldnoah Zero was much different from how the series actually played out. For instance, + Show Spoiler +Urobuchi's original draft had Inaho and Asseylum eloping together, rather than getting shot to death but not really. Honestly, none of that stuff is enough to really warrant another season. What else is there to even do in the story? I just listed some of the things that can be done. In fact, there is still a vast amount of unexplored Vers Empire and it's going to be so easy to create a few new antagonists. So what you want is more stuff in that universe. Okay, fine. But the story Aldnoah Zero s1 and s2 told are pretty much done. What more can they do with the actual story? + Show Spoiler +Mars and Earth are at peace, Mars is sharing their OP plotdevices. Slaine is firmly in the dumpster, and Inaho is now Big Boss. Most everything is resolved. What are they gonna do, have Earth launch some covert terrorist attacks, that leads to another war 2 years later, to rehash all the same things they have already done? Trust me, you don't want an Aldnoah Zero Destiny. But even then, that would be starting a new story, not continuing the old one. And honestly, what more is there to know about Heaven's Fall and what Aldnoah is, anyway? There is tons to say about Aldnoah. + Show Spoiler + One thing that was constantly being mentioned in Season 2 was how Aldnoah could only be activated by the Royal family - which shaped the feudal system for Vers Empire. There was even a bit of Clausewitz/1984 there about why Vers was looking for war.
One crucial factor that would shake up the system would be Inaho, who somehow was able to activate the Aldnoah Drive. The show itself mentions blood as the vector, but I actually think it might be the kisses. Since Slaine kissed both Asselym and Lemrina, can Slaine activate Aldnoah Drive?
So no, this is not going to be Aldnoah Zero Destiny. There are so much stuff that hasn't been developed yet. In fact, if the current form of A/Z is the end of the story, then the following characters were not needed for the show and shouldn't have been included:
Inko Lemrina Klancain Mazuurek
The fact that these characters are in the show and have not been killed off suggests to me that the writer of the show has more things in mind.
Wat? + Show Spoiler +We saw that mouth-to-mouth lets someone active Aldnoah shit. Now all the sudden they need 12 more episodes to develop that or something? Why not read wikipedia for your questions about Aldnoah, its quicker than waiting for another season that will never happe? I'm pretty sure there is an Aldnoah Zero wiki out there just waiting for you.
And since when does a show need to have ALL of its characters be relevant and important? Irrelevant supporting characters existing doesn't mean they planned for more episodes. Or wanted to make them relevant.
|
Do we really have a long discussion about A/Z with someone claiming that it needs another season to explain the abysmal writing in the two previous seasons? What's the point? Unless they up the writing quality by a lot, you would be left with as many questions as you were after s2. S2 just had so many plotholes, asspulls and generally continuous weak writing that causes the questions you have. Do you really think that will be better after a s3 with the same quality? I don't.

And it didn't disappoint. Really liked the first epiode, probably the best ep-1 I've seen this season so far by a long shot. Let's just hope it continues to carry this hard :3
So with that I've got Gakkou Gurashi, Gate and Prisma Ilya going for me as well as a couple mediocre shows. Still got a bunch of ep1's to check out but I'm already happy to have found something.
+ Show Spoiler [gate] +Gate: I like how it's showing the political side of things. I don't buy the USA deciding not to intervene though. If there was a threat of anotherworldly invasion the USA would be the first country to jump on to that. Also Japan should probably want their aid because the US has like over 10x the military power. I would imagine that there would be at least some joint forces sent from the UN.
On the fantasy world side of things, it's interesting how the emperor guy uses the war to get rid of his potential rivals and claim power for himself. I don't get why they wouldn't retreat after half of their army already got wiped out though. The daughter of the emperor looks like she might do something, hopefully she realizes that her dad is an evil dictator lol
+ Show Spoiler [Gakkou Gurashi] +I went into this completely blind and I was laughing for like 5 minutes after the zombie apocalypse got revealed. I wonder how long their food supply will last
+ Show Spoiler [Overlord] +I ended up reading up to volume 2 of the light novels after I saw the first ep, whoever described this as an evil Log Horizon before was spot on.

Before the season this show was low on my priority list but now it's actually one of my favourites. :o

+ Show Spoiler [Gakkou Gurashi] +I like those kind of shows that try to fool you and you just think small details make no sense at first while in reality those were hints and and you realize what's going on later on. You know, how one of the girls is always running around with the shovel. How no teacher would be fine with pink-hair to leave class like that. How no school would be fine with those weird signs on the classroom reading 'sleeping room' and whatnot. How the girl that was following her around always seemed to get in the classes, behaving like she doesn't give a fuck that there's class atm. And then you realize that there never was class and that's just all been in pink-hairs head. So the girl, for just a second, forgot about pink-haired ptsd or whatever it is. Made the final reveal so much more impactful and beautiful to me despite it being very obvious.
TL;DR: same thing for food. They're growing stuff on the roof of the school not because of the school but because they need it (granted, it probably is unrealistic that they could grow enough up there to live on it) and that's just the cover up for pink-hair like the entire "staying at school" club I'd assume.

+ Show Spoiler +There was even more. On the roof top they actually had graves. That's why the one girl asked them to apologies to the members of the agrar club which then suddenly appeared. In reality they had been buried. You can even see the zombies from up there. Then there is the barricade in the hallway, some text on the blackboard etc. Too much details to catch them all honestly.

+ Show Spoiler +yeah the barricade was probably the part where everyone figured out ahead of time what's actually going on. I did not see the zombies in the shot on the roof lol.
Also mentioning everything would have resulted in even more wall-of-text o/
I do wonder what's up with the dog. All those "this actually makes no sense..." moments have been hints so I'd assume the dog has something going itself with being able to open doors. I really hope it's not just comic relief
speaking of refreshing about gate earlier: the best part about it probably is that the MC is a 33year old "normal" guy who has a job and slaves away and NOT another 16year old emotional kid who gets a powerup every time he gets emotional and/or shouts. Let's hope I'm not jinxing it here and the guy randomly behaves just like SAO-MC later on.

After reading all the spoilers about Gakkou here, that anime really is something. :D Excited for more.
Oh and yeah I LOVE that the MC of Gate is an adult for once, agreed Toad.
