If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.ggFor currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net |
Hmm okay. I don't know who is "we", but they messed up ;D. Plus, Katanagatari could easily have gone in another section, like Fantasy.

I'm busy until then. Get your bodies ready. I will campaign endlessly for Ping Pong the Animation for sports, Eureka Seven for mecha, Furiko for shorts, and Tekkonkinkreet for movies
I much prefer an ending like this for Plastic Memories over any bullshit sudden happy ending.

Katanagatari is really good, though the flaw is pretty significant (no, not talking about art). It should be voted on at least
With Last Exile added last year, FruaBa and Noir are my top addition. Though Noir aged pretty terribly, it was pretty stunning when it came out.

After the first list had exceptionally retarded categorizations I've made the genres much more stricter, and every anime falls under their "main" genre.
To that end, Katanagatari isn't as much a fantasy as it is action/adventure.

I'm just curious, what is the flaw?
Edit: Also huge yes for Ping Pong the Animation in Sports. Maybe Haikyuu! too.

Katanagatari doesn't really qualify as a fantasy genre story. If anything it's an adventure genre anime, which isn't a genre on the chart
Anyway i can actually understand not having katanagatari on the list even though i love the show. It's honestly not that great of an anime to recommend to people that are new to anime or just recently got into it. I mean, the list isn't meant to be "This is TLADTs favourite anime" after all.
Anyone who frequents the thread is going to see people occasionally praise katanagatari anyway.

Well Madlax was way more action. It was also rather stupid and ages slightly better.

The flaw is that the story is dumb and doesn't make a lick of sense

Madlax is better because it is literally Noir V2. It doesn't have nearly as much impact. Also I watched all of Madlax overnight stuck at ATL airport, don't think that helped...

Yeah without an Adventure category I can see why it's not in the chart. It's not more Action than it is Comedy in my eyes. At least I had good laughs while watching it.

It actually fits Fantasy/sci-fi genre pretty well if you look what stories in those genre's typically are. Fantasy more than sci-fi as it has a heavy focus on destiny which is often a core focus of the genre. I guess it really depends on if you view a story like Star Wars as sci-fi instead of fantasy.

Actually I'm not sure why Claymore is still under Fantasy. Gonna have to change that and put it under Mainstream (which I'll be changing to Popular) or Action.
Seirei no Moribito prolly doesn't belong under fantasy either, though I'm not sure what its "main" thing is.

Katanagatari ep 4 and the last ep are what made it for me. Both solid as fuck.

Seirei no Moribito is a classical fantasy story. The only tag that fits it more is "coming of age" which is quite broad.

It has far more in common with typical fantasy than traditional sci-fi. There should be a sub genre of sci-fi for "fantasy with future tech" which would clear up most of the confusion.

Fantasy Adventure yeah. Which is what you could qualify stuff like Magi or even Arsalan to a degree.
Edit: And before the Genre speculation gets out of hand. Lets not forget that it is a very very big list as it is and for some one looking for recommendations its going to put their head in a spin anyway. But atleast its some direction and thats all you need. If Katanagatari or something someone likes isnt there I dont think your lives will be to adversely affected so its not really that big a deal. The rec list is not for you. Its for people looking for things to watch and not knowing how to go about it.

Oh I don't think we even voted for Magi last year.
Gonna have to add that to the poll.

Hardly even need to call it an adventure. It has almost every element of classic fantasy. Medieval type time period(Can't think of Japenese Equivalent lol), destiny, prophecy, magic, and much more. I don't even see how you can say it doesn't belong under fantasy. It's almost the perfect formula for a fantasy story. How are you making up your categories? It belongs in there far more than something like Log Horizon.

Just because it has "elements" of a genre doesn't mean that's its main thing.
Katanagatari for all intents and purposes is an action adventure. Anyone who classifies it as mainly fantasy is on some odd trip.
Might as well call One Piece a fantasy.

Hahaha ok ok you convinced me that Katanagatari is not worth putting on the chart, fine. Seems like every 20 pages or so, the chart gets mentioned and I spring out of my box like "WHERE THE FUCK'S MAH KATANAGATARI!". I'll try to remember what invariably happens next time :D
