Last series I have watched were just bad, so it's nice that this time I got something way better. Not mind blowing or even close to being a masterpiece, but a solid piece of good short series. Another. The story was quite nice, reminded me a bit of Higurashi. Even the main male character wasn't as bad as he could be (I mean, he was a bit annoying and with his repetition of questions even stupid at times), so that's a plus. Obviously liked Misaki Mei, some other characters were nice too, even if not original or deep. And I really liked the attention to little details in animation, like cube of sugar melting away in a tea - sure, I'm not watching the newest series, but Another really had a nice animations going. If anyone has something similiar to recommend, shot me ;]

Also, as far as recommendations go, they're not exactly similar but I think Shigofumi might be a good watch if you're down for something a bit spooky, since you mentioned Another and Higurashi. Halloween's over but I think it still fits the mood. I thought that show was pretty good until like the last two episodes since it started having a story. I really liked the episodic elements of the anime the most.

The story and the narrative trick was fine in source, the anime simply stretched it so long that it turned into a comedy and had none of the atmosphere of being a horror. One of the reasons I hate on PA works as much as I do now. On November 02 2013 03:51 Zergneedsfood wrote: I disagree. I think it had a good start, but after a few episodes it really went downhill. I'm really easily scared and I was laughing by the end of the anime....which isn't a good thing I'm assuming. I mean the source wasn't particularly scary per se, but the atmosphere was far from the hilarious how-people-die-this-week of anime.

It was a novel and it was much better. The manga adaptation that came out at around the same time as anime was better but lacked in comparison. Giving narrative tricks like that a face just makes for it being really underwhelming. I am curious though, what were you watching before Another to make that abomination of an anime look good? And yes, Mirai Fukuin aired. Feel free to ask Kazehydra about how it was.

I'm not easily scared and I'm not saying I DID get scared with Another, but it had a nice atmosphere, spooky does not equal scary, just has a nice vibe to it. Last few episodes were a bit dumb but they were fun to watch. Obviously we were looking for different things while we were watching this show. I would recommend it to other people, haven't seen many shows like it and while it's not great it's worth watching it imo.

Once you have seen one of those, they are all the same. Another simply takes it to a purely comedic level in being unable to leverage anything to even surprise the viewers while making the plot and revelation completely trivial. I wouldn't recommend it to the worst of my enemies, unless they want to study the things to avoid doing in an adaptation.

I'm told Uchouten Kazoku is by far their best adaptation because they actually bothered to stick to the original work.
