Could you please tell me why liking Geass means you should try Evangelion....besides the fact that there are mechs in both anime? o_O They are both bad, too.

based on this attitude I'm starting to strongly regret posting in this thread.
edit: sorry for double post, meant to edit.

We should have "X days since someone asked for generic recomnendations without looking at the chart" at the top of the thread too

Honestly, it's still pretty solid and I would definitely consider it to be worth watching from what I've seen. Not expecting it to be amazing, though.

The show overall is good so far, but the Scifi part is pretty noticeably poor, and drag on the show itself. Being "unique" scifi (honestly IDK if you can even call Gargantia 'unique', but w/e) isn't the same thing as being "good", just as much as being "cliche" scifi isn't the same thing as being "bad".

Code Geass and Evangelion are pretty different from one another aside from the use of mecha. I just disagree that they're compatible recommendations and I used a hyperbole to prove my point.

and he had no stated criteria for said recommendations, just as you have no criteria for calling them bad recommendations.

It was a generic recommendation for a generic question. Nothing more than that.

You didn't say you thought they were similar. You said you liked both...which has nothing to do with anime being similar to each other in the context of recs. It's not a matter of right or wrong or subjectivity, it's just irrelevant to the topic at hand.

Because I already told you.
If you're so bothered by my recommendation, go ahead and tell him I'm wrong and recommend something he'd like instead.
e: I mean clearly it's more productive to argue with MY opinion rather than ask the guy who wanted an opinion in the first place.

Based on you telling him to read the mod note he might as well just go watch eva, seeing as in the mod note Code Geass and eva are both under mecha. He did state criteria, aka the anime he has watched/enjoyed. As for your second statement, did he like Code Geass for the mecha? If he did, Evangelion perhaps is an acceptable recommendation, but I can guarantee you that he did not like Code Geass for the Mecha, but for other reasons/aspects of the show.
so how is telling him to read the mod note more constructive than anything I mentioned?
Telling him he might like eva if he liked geass (note the IF there, if he didn't like Geass then he's smart enough to ignore my opinion. We're not talking to a child. Also I doubt he would mention it if he didn't like it) is simply putting forth my opinion. It has nothing to do with any of this similarity b/s you're pulling up based on huge assumptions about his tastes that he did not mention in the first place.

That's why your post is misleading. Code Geass and Evangelion are pretty different so if he didn't like Code Geass and got the impression that Evangelion was similar (because recommendations tend to revolve around things that are similar), then he might just write off the anime before even watching it. I know I do that plenty of times to anime that are recommended based on things I've disliked.

I don't know why you're so defensive when I asked why you would recommend it. Because I already told you. If you're so bothered by my recommendation, go ahead and tell him I'm wrong and recommend something he'd like instead. e: I mean clearly it's more productive to argue with MY opinion rather than ask the guy who wanted an opinion in the first place. We don't bother with people who come in here and ask for generic recommendations and offer a generic list of what they've watched, because that just fosters a bunch of shit posts by people who just recommend the same anime that are on the chart at the top of the page. Your attitude may not be intentionally hostile, but it certainly does come off as such.
I've been on this thread for like....3 years? It gets annoying when people always don't pay attention to the mod note at the top of the page.
Didn't they used to ban people in SC2 forums for not reading mod notes?
