If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

I haven't watched anime for a long time and I'm wondering if there are any new anime that are similar to the ones I like. A tsundere as a main and magic as one of the themes are huge plus.

Ones I have watched and enjoyed
Rumbling Hearts - my first anime I watched... was very sad
School Rumble - a great anime, loved every minute of it
Toradora/Louise Magic Girl?/Combat Butler - they are nice but not a fan of loli
Full Metal Panic/fumoffu? - both were great
Clannad/after story - T.T
Fate/Stay night - amazing
Love Hina - is it worth finishing? Only saw like the first 4 episodes...
Vampire Rose girl or something? - too much fan service
Same as Freezing and High School of the Dead...

I am currently watching A Certain Magical Index and it's been great so far.

Thanks

Fate/Zero. And Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal (OVA).

I still have to get around to watching fate/zero. Is it better then fate/stay?

Kaze no Stigma is the epitome of a magic-themed anime with a tsundere heroine.

Immeasurably. Fate/Stay was a decent anime (though people here will say it was not even that), but I think Fate/Zero can be comfortably placed in the top 5 animes of all time. Though I have a limited perspective (who hasn't, really), it just seems so much more fleshed out. The story and the characters can be enjoyed beyond having certain perversions, or being infatuated with the standard tropes of animes, yet it still manages to exploit all these traits of anime almost to perfection. It's fantastic, very few animes compare in my opinion, and certainly not Fate/Stay, which by comparison seems almost criminal in how much less exciting and engaging it is.

Zero is better than FSN in my opinion.

I think Zero should be close to what a "real" war for the Grail would be. Its pretty much as merciless as it can be, unlike FSN.

But FSN, after watching Zero, is more like a tragedy in the way that the children are kind of forced into a war that their parents wanted.

F/SN may be a fine anime on its own. The problem is that it kind of butchered the incredible source (F/SN story is much more interesting and complex than F/Z IMHO) it's hard to judge it subjectively.

I even dropped FZ several times because how tedious it became. To say that it was more engaging than FSN is ridiculous. Special effects and 'mature' action doesn't make an anime complete. And to even remotely consider placing any of them as one of the best anime ever...

I find it stupid to make things like "top 5" or "top 10" lol
Everyday I feel like I have different preferences. For example, some days I cannot fucking stand Sword Art Online and just want to never watch it, while other days I'm just perfectly relaxed while watching it.
Especially stuff like K-On too, I thought I would be the person who could never sit through 50 episodes of literally nothingness. But I actually watched all of it and enjoyed it. And sometimes I think to myself that it was awful and I would never watch it again, while other times I'm just like, aw yee K-on.

Currently though, my favorite anime is Madoka Magica, since I love the fact that it's only 12 episodes long, I've watched that shit over and over quite a bit. (Although I didn't like how it ended too much :/ )

tl;dr : I'm weird as fuck about my anime tastes

Fz is probably my favorite anime atm. I cant place it in any general top X list though, I can only speak for my own opinions. HF route was just as good as Fz imo though. But thats vn not anime

@Sentenal, remember when you were streaming VOTOMS and you were playing some youtube vids while waiting for Echo. This was also the same time you played the VOTOMS Finder PV and I was like "I would watch that". But then there was another vid you played, it was a Macross Frontier PV iirc. Which Frontier was it exactly, if you remember. I think it was most likely the second movie PV that you played, but if you know for sure then that would be cool too.

Regardless, Im gonna watch the Macross movies 1 and 2. I saw some PV vids, and holy shit *jizz pants* amazing.

Going through Penguin drum again recently. Although I am a rather big critic of flashbacks in general, I like the way it pulls it off.

Anime is amazing though. I put it up there next to Madoka Magica.

Edit:
Just had to let my FT fanboyism take place. Decided it was best not to discuss it here.

Inb4 the manga readers come out.

Edit 2:
Okay but seriously. Going from that shitty Infinity Clock arc to the Tournament arc, FT just feels 100x better. Just everything in the main story arc is just fcking insane. They way they weave past arcs into the current arc is just mind blowingly fcking awesome. Just holy shit man, watching the OP, I spoiled myself with a lot of shit, but it also adds huge anticipation. I fcking fck dude. Im gonna kill myself waiting for new episodes weekly. gg, no fcking re man.
