Im not saying expecting hack'n'slash is a valid complaint. If anything it was very clear what it was trying to convey. Even for the formula it had the way it was progressing got a bit too slow to be meaningful at times. You could call it nitpicking or taste. | ||

The first half was fine, but then Ringo kinda did a 180, and some retarded plot happened in the last few episodes. There were so many unanswered questions at the end that it just left a really bad taste in my mouth. It just wasn't up to the task of being the new Utena. The Ringo 180 was kinda weird yeah that's my only serious qualm about it. Unanswered questions are whatever it's not like the anime was plot driven anyways. I think it was amazing that I managed to -like- all of the characters by the end, which was frankly amazing to me and a testament to the quality of the anime. It was totally unexpected for me. Never saw Utena so can't comment on that, but I enjoyed Penguindrum immensely and infinitely more thatn I thought I would judging from the first few episodes since I'm not really one for the slice of life/comedy animes which is what the show set up to be...
