Im not saying expecting hack'n'slash is a valid complaint. If anything it was very clear what it was trying to convey. Even for the formula it had the way it was progressing got a bit too slow to be meaningful at times. You could call it nitpicking or taste. | ||

The first half was fine, but then Ringo kinda did a 180, and some retarded plot happened in the last few episodes. There were so many unanswered questions at the end that it just left a really bad taste in my mouth. It just wasn't up to the task of being the new Utena. I think it was amazing that I managed to -like- all of the characters by the end, which was frankly amazing to me and a testament to the quality of the anime. It was totally unexpected for me. Never saw Utena so can't comment on that, but I enjoyed Penguindrum immensely and infinitely more thatn I thought I would judging from the first few episodes since I'm not really one for the slice of life/comedy animes which is what the show set up to be...
