Standard recommendation from Type/Moon
Fate Stay Night (Action/Supernatural) <--- Why do people still recommend this. It's. Fucking. Terrible.
Tsukihime(Action/Supernatural)
Nakige(emotional stories)
Clannad <--
Both of these are hard to get through for people just getting into visual novels.
Kanon <--
Little Busters falls into the above category as well.
Ef is a much easier read than those as well.
Instead of those, read Narcissu. It's more of a... utsuge? I think the word is, but it's in the same area.

I played Clannad. It was hard only in the sense that it was really time consuming. I didn't have any problems aside from that, but I guess that would be the biggest factor.....

I feel that 10-20 hours should be about right. 30+ will have the reader just mass clicking towards the end, and 5 seems a bit too short for a newcomer unless the story is something godly... I'd rather someone be left with a good impression and expect more from VNs in the future than getting a crappy first and being turned away from VNs as a whole.

Hmmm....Southlight had a post a few pages ago where he just busted out all these VNs he'd recommend. I'm too lazy to look for the post but it had VNs of all lengths that seemed pretty guuud.

If you're new to VN's, i highly suggest x-change
It only has a few routes, only takes a day to play, and the art is really good

I keep seeing Bakuman getting new seasons. So I guess its really THAT good.
My friend says he keeps up with it, and he kinda says the same thing you guys do: its kinda boring, but it keeps you interested.

Mouretsu Pirates is being directed by him too? That guy must be busy this season, because he is the production director of Rinne no Lagrange as well.
I'm going to watch the Space Pirates one, but not expecting much. With low expectations, no way I can get disappointed. I guess it is a plus if the guy who did Nadesico is directing it, but we will see. The Nadesico movie was bad.
Lagrange is sort of in the same boat, but expecting slightly better things out of this one. I still dunno why people call it Evangelion meets K-On or some shit, since the PV reminded me much more of Star Driver than Eva. In fact, it didn't remind me of Eva at all lol.
Symphogear is another one I'm not sure about, but will watch. I see hot girls, looks like there will be lots of fighting, and the studio that did Macross Frontier and Aquarion are doing it. Apparently Nana is doing the theme song, so I expect KazeHydra to masturbate all over this show.
Other shows I'm watching is definitely Aquarion Evol. Almost done with the first season, enjoying it alot, and if the sequel is anything like the first one, I might have my anime of the season right here.
The other is Brave 10. It looks like it could be good, concept and art wise.
