I didn't know that though. I've read a few BL but I'll read it for the story rather than the graphical and I can't tell when it turns from one into the other so I tend to avoid it.

Kaiji, for instance, is the epitome of a marathon show. Since its pacing is so slow, it's better to view it all in one sitting, skipping all the filler as necessary. Compare that to shows like Penguindrum or Madoka. The strengths of these series lay in the fact that they are original works, so the direction the plot would take is/was up in the air. Couple this with the clues and foreshadowing in each episode, and you've got some pretty decent speculation material. Half the entertainment derived from Madoka was arguably because of the discussion that happened every week. When Madoka's ending got delayed by the tsunami, it killed off a lot of the hype surrounding the series. Basically, the week delay in between episodes was very beneficial for Madoka's popularity, as it allowed people ample time to discuss theories and get hyped up for the next episode.

I think you need to think this through more. Say a comedy series, you could marathon it certainly. But watching it weekly wouldn't actually hurt your enjoyment. When you're watching a Slice of Life series, marathoning is simply dreadful. When you're watching a tense thriller, you can't resist marathoning. Certainly, being limited to a weekly release isn't desired, but it's not as universally bad as you make it out to be.

+ Show Spoiler + such a good/happy ending :D I'm glad they decided to end on a good note instead of the ridiculously depressing endings that are only 'cured' by a 10 second epilogue that could basically mean anything... + Show Spoiler + I'm talking about you, Angel Beats
