Seems shonen is your cup of tea so check out Kekkaishi it's in my opinion by far the best shonen out there. It doesn't have a real ending however so be prepared to take up the Manga after. You must not have seen 99% of all shonen then. Because Hokuto no Ken, Getter Robo, Mazinger Z, S-cry-ed, School Days, GaoGaiGar, and TTGL, to name just a few, and easily about six to seven hundred tiers above kekkaishi. Opinions! We all have them. I've seen tons of shonen in my days and for me it is the best. I found the characters all fleshed out and easy to relate to, the characters evolved and I really liked the setting. It set me up perfectly for taking up the manga. Also it has camp ghost dogs something all tv-series should aspire to have. Everyone has a diffrent taste, for example my favourite manga is Trace, 95% of the people I talk to have never even heard of it. And don't take it as I try to be hipster by going "Oh I like things nobody else likes" just for the sake of it, because that isn't true. If I wanted to be hip I would say 5 magic words that turns everyone against me. Out of curiosity, what are the 5 magic words that would turn everyone against you? I've never seen Kekkaishi, nor do I really consider [most] of the shows Kaal mentioned as "shounens", but I can say, without a doubt, every show he mentioned is objectively better than Kekkaishi. Other than School Days. LOL, slipping that one in there, such a troll, Kaal. The word you are looking for is subjectively better and have more wide appeal,. Kekkaishi have excellent animations, voice acting and production value. (The things that can be looked at objectively) and ofcourse wide appeal often mean better, but in my own very subjective opinion, Kekkaishi is my first pick as weird as it may be. Also thos magic words are: "I really disliked Death Note" It's not that I dislike everything that is popular, infact all those cliché "Must sees", have been watched and liked. I've tried at least 5 times to get through the series. I find the characters stupid, the plot dumb and all I can think about is how much more fun it would be if the Death Note ended up with a lunatic instead. Don't get me wrong I can see that it's obviously a excellent series or it wouldn't be as popular as it is, but I just cringe everytime I'm forced to see an episode. Also ofcourse I know that Trace is Korean. Death Note isn't nearly as popular in this topic as you think, if you think saying "I really dislike Death Note" will turn everyone against you. I think most of the active posters in here would say Death Note is massively over-rated, at the very least. And for the record, I don't think Super Robot shows have wider appeal than shounen shows. @Souma: You need a "Best Badass" category for the Seiyus, and so the most godly Seiyu ever gets to be on one of those "Best" categorys. Oh didn't mean in this thread, I ment in general. Nothing I've said have been ment to be just confined to this thread. And again it's often based on region some of the shows that made it big here is almost unheard of when I talk to my American friends. I think that the sport shows are the easiest example.

Best Badass Voice: + Show Spoiler +1. Nobuyuki Hiyama 2. Hideo Ishikawa 3. Hiroya Ishimaru 4. Fumihiko Tachiki Is what my list would look like. I would think you would have Fumihiko Tachiki on your list, kinda surprised you don't.

I think the best badass voice should go for the guy who speaks without vowels by default.

Ohh you guys are right. This is what I get for rushing that list. Totally forgot. Nakata Jouji and Tachiki Fumihiko are in tier 1.5 so I kind of just ignored them haha. My mistake.

Have any of you guys been watching Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko?
I glanced through the spring anime list/pictures and the description sounded interesting (I've stopped paying attention much to the pictures ever since I was disappointed by animes that looked downright amazing and then turned out to suck--objectively, in that the animation and stories were just terrible).
Anyway, I have to say that Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko so far seems amazing (halfway through first ep though <.<) :D :D :D
The picture in the spring anime list is sort of NSFW though -_- My only annoyance with this is that it shows way too much of Erio's legs...enough that I have to minimize whenever someone comes around, even.
BUT this still looks incredible--definitely my type of anime I think.

Nonetheless, it is still a solution that wiped out every issue presented in one sweeping move, so I feel pretty comfortable calling it as such.

Oh okay ><
My weird thing is that I can get really into merely the scenes and stuff--i.e. that starry gold sparkle thing in the room made me go :O (as do parts where the landscapes etc. are shown). Hard to explain exactly, but I just get sort of fascinated and starry-eyed (not literally) owo

On April 24 2011 06:21 Souma wrote:+ Show Spoiler +Thought this would be fun to do. Seiyuu tier list. I tried to be as objective as possible but in the end it's all still opinion and I had to use my gut on some of the harder choices. Why I'm doing this:Just to spark some discussion and to give awareness to those who don't really follow seiyuu. How it works:To be on the tier list, they have to have been at least recently active with multiple big roles. There were some really good seiyuu that I left out because they just aren't active currently or only have one continuing role. I probably missed some though so feel free to mention any that I did miss. Actors were rated by versatility, how good they are at portraying various emotions, voice, and being prolific served as a bonus. There are four tiers. However, instead of Tiers 1-4, there is a Tier 1.5. This is because of how close Tiers 1 and 1.5 are. People in Tier 1.5 are still incredible voice actors and are only held back by one small factor. People in Tier 1 are the cream of the crop and generally excel beyond most others in at least one category while being good in all other categories as well. Those in Tier 2 are generally lacking in more than one category. A lot of this can be attributed to not having enough big roles to show off what they can do (hence being prolific can help). For those who do have enough roles, being in Tier 2 means they need to improve in about two categories. You may be wondering why there are barely any people in Tier 3. It's because those who are in Tier 3 generally are the ones with only a handful of big roles and the least prolific, so there are a lot of new actors that I do not know of who may belong in this tier. In Tier 3, actors don't have enough roles for me to judge them higher and are typecasted with the roles they do have. They may or may not be better, but for the time being they're stuck in Tier 3. There are a couple who have enough roles but are still in Tier 3. This is because I feel they only excel at one type of role. (*) means they may actually be a tier higher, but I have to see more big roles of theirs. Tier List:Tier 1: + Show Spoiler +Males:

Ok, so perhaps this isn't the best place for this, and I imagine it has been answered to some extent in the 0.0 1024 pages of this thread, but I think I'll risk looking dumb to ask anyways -
I'm fairly new to anime/manga, and I've watched some of the more mainstream/commonplace series (Naruto, Bleach, One Piece + mangas) as well as some of the commonly suggested series (Buso Renkin, Code Geass, Elfen Lied, etc.) but am looking to see if there are any more series that people would add to a 'If you're new to anime do not miss _____" list if one were to be put together.
Maybe this actually isn't such a bad place to pose the question - if you had a friend who was just getting into anime, and were tasked with putting together a list things they should check out, what would be on it?
I'd hugely appreciate any suggestions, and apologize if this has been asked in this thread before, or if this is a bad place to make such a request.

I've never really understood why some people consider baccano to be so excellent, or one of their favorite series ever. I mean, I liked Baccano, but there was nothing in there that made me think "wow, this is a truly great show, not merely a very good one".
What aspects of baccano make you place it among the best shows ever?

Baccano was a series that got it all together. Good plot, excellent characters, and an interesting storytelling method. Bear in mind that it's not my favorite favorite series. It's just my favorite recommendation series because it's good, it doesn't have that many anime tropes, and doesn't get too weird (eg. KnK), so it's very accessible for newcomers.
