I watched it on a whim because the description didn't turn me off to it. After watching 5 minutes i had begun to fear the worst but by the end of the first ep i knew this was something great.
For a drama to be so effective in invoking these sad emotions is just incredible, i don't think i ever watched such a sad anime. A real grave of the fireflies vibe, if not more then that movie.
Can't say what it was but in all honesty this is a keeper. If they can maintain this level of quality all season long this could very well be the best show of the season (competing with Kaiji at this point) and honestly it could be the best drama anime ever.
I really hope the entire show is as great as the first episode because then we are in for something special.
