I can think of a few reasons - sending all the losing gladiators there either to work or sacrifices, and to get Devil Fruits from when gladiators with such powers die. Hopefully more will be revealed soon. As far as I know, the way it works is that when a DF user dies, the fruit will more or less randomly appear in the world somewhere afterwards - only Blackbeard has shown he can extract a power from a dead/dying DF user (correct me if I'm forgetting something here).
caesar was also able to do it. the slime monster was a DF salamander or something like that. and while he died, an apple turned into a DF and caesar put down the apples on purpose.
like the chapter!

Wasn't it said that when a devil fruit user dies a nearby fruit becomes the new Devil fruit of that person or something? I may have imagined that though.

First, do tomatoes count? Second, what if someone's just about to take a bite and it turns into a devil fruit? Third, what if two fruits are equidistant? Fourth, why doesn't someone powerful and money hungry doesn't go around with a fruit in their pocket and kill fruit users to make a profit?

So guys, this reminds me of Dark City movie, where while everyone is sleeping memories are re-arranged.

Really liking this arc so far :D

Seems like the tournament will probably get cut short, which would be very Oda. Probably will get to the next round to show off Rebecca or Cavendish, and probably even the round after that to set Dofla's crew against Luffy's, and give time for Bellamy to come to a decision and at least attempt an assassination before that. Anyway, I like that more questions were raised. I'm sick of boring 1-plot-dimension islands. Fishman Island was so linear for my mind. Big Mam's slice on the island was the only interesting thing for me there. I guess the current subplot list goes like: + Show Spoiler +- Dwarf Kingdom: trying to rescue princess. Extremely indebted to Norland. - Law: vs Admiral and Shichibukai. - CP0: Here just to placate the citizens? I don't really think so. - Rebecca, toy solider + Ricky: what connection do they all have? Who was the toy beforehand? - Chinjau: What did Garp take from him? What is locked in his past? - Ace's Devil Fruit: What will be the destiny for this power? Is it even a real fruit? - Samurais: What's their proper stake in all this? - Toys: What people have been locked away with their pasts stolen? Who is doing this? For what purpose? If they wanted to silence them, why not just kill them off? - Doflamingo's Laws: why do they exist? - Bellamy: What will he decide? What really happened on Sky Island? I'm actually looking forward to a heartwarming flashback here. - Marines: If they're there to arrest some potentially pretty big names (Luffy, Law, Cavendish, Barty, others?) who else have they brought along? If a buster call is 5 VAs, we're already at 1 A and 2 VAs. It's already a huge operation. - Barty: What is his connection to Luffy? - Blackbeard wrestler guy: What sort of spanner would such a powerhouse put into the whole thing? - Doflamingo: Still so much more to know about the big bad for this arc. I love such a complicated arc. Honestly this looks already more complicated than Shabondy.
Great post! This arc is shapping out to be one the best arcs yet and where the strawhats will right their most powerfull enemies!
Everything is connected with one piece.. that's why this story is one the best there is!
I get it that people want more and faster.. but there's nothing that can be done! I would love to have the story until the end right now and could spend a few weeks just reading it.. but it's going to take years! So take a chill pill and apreciate this masterpiece!

Going faster just for the heck of doing it would just ruin the entire arc to be honest. With that many subplots, I really think this is actually going at a crazy pace.
|
The blackbeard question is easily answered:
The blackbeard crew is looking for powerful devil fruits, he is simply there to acquire the very powerful logia fruit of fire no less.
|
Yeah, pacing seems just fine to me aswell. If you're having fun with something, it's always going to feel like it's over way too quickly.

The Chinjao thing to me is the most interesting thing that happened in this chapter. The toy thing was fairly obvious.

Why does it matter if tomatoes count or not? LOL
What would someone do with multiple devil fruits? Besides they're hard to find and (likely) even harder to kill. It's safe to assume the Tenryuubito have a stash of them though, seeing as they fed Boa Hancock one just for amusement.
I bet the curfew set by DD is due to a side effect of the toys. At midnight, the toys revert back to human form, only no human would be able to see it. The dwarf princess who ate the toy-toy fruit will die in the eventual clash and all her doing will be reverted. By the way if dwarves could really use fruit powers, could you imagine a dwarf wielding sengoku's giant buddha thing? LOL.
In regards to DD, I'm beginning to think he is actually a Tenryuubito.

A Devil Vegetable perhaps?

Is it just me or would we all prefer to call them Gnomes instead of Dwarves? Dwarves are bigger than that.
Also, the extra page for Leo makes me think that he might want to join the crew, especially with the 'Need to save nakama!'
***Nice post bittman, put things in perspective, indeed a hell lot of plots going on here.

He is called the DRILL hahahha.

When your female characters start losing relevance or appeal story wise, increase bosom size!

Robin got the same treatment and shes still relevant
all in all nothing bad comes from increasing bosom size of female characters

I actually prefer Nami before because now they are over the top.

Hancock Nami Robin
In that order. Robin's face is just... there's something wrong with her nose that I simply can't get over.
