That's just an excuse that the author uses to try and make it seem like nothing's going on which means that it should've been a hint that something was up.

Haha, I'm surprised my super old thread is still alive. It depresses me how much attention the Naruto thread gets compared to One Piece.
+ Show Spoiler +I'm honestly not that surprised about this latest development, I sorta had a feeling that something like this would happen. Also, there is basically 0% chance that Dragon == Roger, thank god.

Well, this one was created more recently. And I don't think as many people read it as Naruto or Bleach unfortunately....
And thankfully, Oda is actually probably a better mangaka than Kishi or Kubo. 
Also (off topic), I wish HunterxHunter would come back soon.

It was a deception by Ace & Garp when they interacted with Luffy I believe. Ace probably figured it out later at least or was told by Garp.
Since Roger told Garp not to let his son suffer for his sins... so Garp brought him in under his family lineage (aka saying he was dragon's son) to protect him from excess persecution of being Gold Roger's son. Although obviously he would still be fairly infamous as Dragon's "son."

In reality, One Piece is far more popular in Japan than the other two are. It's just that the pre-teen crowd here in the US gravitates toward Naruto and Bleach, and they happen to be the biggest market for this sort of thing. I was told by some former students (3rd graders) that OP is just too wordy, and, more importantly, not as "cool." In this regard, I think the localization and marketing for OP has really set the series back in the US. It's unfortunate, because OP is a fairly deep and powerful series that takes a bit more maturity to truly appreciate. Of course it's not for everyone, but it's really a shame that many people refuse to even give it a chance.

All I know is Oda was voted to be one of the top 10 manga artists in Japan along with legendary mangas
and naruto/bleach wasn't even close

Man the rebirth of this thread got me all hyped up for OP again, I forgot where i left off though so I will probably spoiler myself on Wikipedia and choose somewhere to continue from. (some things just take too long to happen).

naruto and bleach cant compete with one piece.. while the naruto anime may have huge fanbase, the manga just tops both in terms of depth and quality <3

Completely agree. Once piece is just better than Naruto and way better than that shit named Bleach. If you liked One piece you should also read Hajime no Ippo, it's awesome!

I wonder if the One Piece might be the lost period of the history, the Void Century written in a poneglyph or something..i can't really imagine it's a classic treasure or something like that.
