i miss when fights could just both sides just beating the crap out of each other with there fists instead of both sides pulling out such bleach style techniques

Ugh I hope that means something in the interim rather than dragging this shit out another year.

At this point Zoro will become shogun of Wano by the time others join him.

How will it take another year??
I thought WCI was going to end within, say, 20 chapters?

Wano might not immediately follow Whole Cake Island. Reverie could come before I guess?

Fights in One Piece have always been thought out well – Luffy has had to face different hurdles in defeating his opponents. Rare is the case where conflict boils down to an "emotional battle of wills" á la Bleach. Clever tactics in fights are something that as a reader I want to keep seeing more of.
One thing that's becoming harder and harder for me to rationally accept is Luffy beating people with amazing abilities. Point being that the shonen manga MC has to win yet he has to be able to take down people in a convincing fashion.
Doflamingo could turn his surroundings into invincible strings, make string clones and control people like puppets - holy shit! The possibilities are endless on how he could turn any fight into child's play. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that, in terms of power and ability, Katakuri seems to be on another level than Luffy right now.
For me it doesn't actually matter if the MC is weaker in terms of power/ability (what is power, anyway?). Has there ever been a case of Luffy beating a "stronger" person in combat by outsmarting him somehow? I can't recall.

Well Luffy beat Crocodile by abusing his weakness, no?

Now here I thought One Piece would finish before I settle down with a family of 3, but it will take longer to show Zoro than for me to finish my degree...

Luffy will not defeat Katakuri, it seems clear that his goal is to evade him and escape WCI.

I'll never complain about the amount of breaks after learning about Oda's work schedule. The guy has overworked himself to hell and been hospitalized multiple times due to working on One Piece.
I'm okay with him taking breaks.

Katakuri is only second to Yonkous. His observer haki is as good at it gets, i'd its the peak level of haki. I think he is strong enough to go toe to toe with any of the admirals as well. it would be really lame if Luffy beats him.

Funnily enough I don't think we've ever seen an Admiral go really all-out. Except perhaps for Sakazuki against Whitebeard. However even then, Akainu was still a primary threat, like 20 minutes later.

Luffy is definitely going to beat Katakuri. Its already been "called" for by multiple people in-manga, so it would be kind of a letdown if he doesn't. I'm expecting it to be a knockout, but I guess its possible it could be a minor victory as well.

there's no imperative for luffy to beat katakuri; as he explained on zou, not on whole cake island to wage a war, he's here simply to grab sanji and ensure his crew escapes intact.
i doubt there will be another significant fight between the two in this escape sequence, luffy lucked out brûlée and he knows it.
