Just like how Big Mom must be defeated because she too wants to be the pirate king. It doesn't have to happen this arc, but Luffy and co need to defeat her or in some other way change her mind on wanting that title. | ||

Ahm, how many people who've said they wanted to be the pirate king and then fought with luffy has luffy "eliminated". If by eliminated you mean "fought them and left them feeling respect for him and/or converted them to his side" then yes, he has "eliminated" people. I doubt that luffy will EVER actually kill someone. I don't think he believes in killing. He wants freedom, not power. EDIT: I think Oda killed Ace because he couldn't find a way to make him useful in the long-term. Ace is never going to be subordinate to ANYONE. Equally, Luffy and Ace would never fight eachother. This stalemate would leave the title of "Pirate King" in limbo when the two eventually do start challenging and/or defeating and/or becoming Yonkou. | ||

Luffy doesn't need to actually kill. He just needs his opponents to give up on becoming the Pirate King. If they respect Luffy as their superior, then that is good enough. | ||
