The minotaur guards in Impel Down were stated to be awakened zoans and they didn't gain any special powers, they were just better/tougher.
I think awakened zoans are just giant beasts. Like Chopper's monster form. You go brain dead if you can't control it but you get tremendous power.

It seems to me that Chopper is an example of a fruit user tinkering with his fruit to get in touch with his awakened form (like Impel Down guards).
Awakened Devil Fruits is a really interesting concept, love it. I think that Aokiji and Akainu are two examples of awakened fruit users. They transformed Punk Hazard into what it currently is, they altered their environment in the same manner as DD before getting rekt. By the looks of it, a classic devil fruit can alter the user. An awakened fruit can alter the environment.
It's a cool way for DD to go down, he shows his trump card which in reality is something we didn't even know about. Very cool. Makes Garp all the more cooler. 
I'm also happy that Luffy's gear fourth has a time limit. Otherwise he'd just shit on everyone.

I don't think Luffy's fruit is awakened though.
Haki is supposed to be the only possible counter to Logia type fruits. Take that away and we're back to square pre-time skip

Remember how i predicted that Mingo still has an Ace up his sleeve and then it came true this week? He could make unlimited clones now, when he can turn his environment into strings he's now has unlimited strings to make stuffs with. Just hope luffy didn't blasted all his remaining strength into a Mingo clone, The white shield was blocking LUffy's vision and luffy has shown he's observation haki can't distinguish between clone and read Mingo.

it probably has something to do with being able to rearrange the molecular structure of things to mimic your paramecia type
like how we eat food that is overcooked or undercooked and we describe it as mushy/rubbery/grainy etc. lol

Wow, that's really cool. That actually helps explain why Punk Hazard became half fire half ice, because of the awakening of Devil Fruits like DD was able to do. I mean, we'd always thought that it was just because Aokiji and Akainu were badasses, but awakening makes sense too.

With all the hints about luffy overusing haki, i get the feeling that gear 4's setback will be about Luffy not beeing able to use haki for some time.

Hmm, I feel like Luffy is going to just about clinch the 1v1, but the burgess will turn up and Sabo will have to intervene. Fujitora probably heads to help stop the bird cage? Not sure, will be interesting to see what Fuji boy makes of King Riku's public endorsement of Luffy.
