Yea I believe that's the only time it's really mentioned. Don't think they ever talk about who did it, although it's probably easy to guess that it was the Children of the Forest. Also he makes a fairly distinct point of saying that only the dead can't cross it.

This sequence is definitely off.
The barrier stops their army of dead ppl, but not the Night king and the walkers themselves, maybe?

Jaime's are-you-fucking-serious-right-now-bro? look when Tyrion goes ' I wish father were here' made the episode for me.
I thought this one was great, liked all the scenes pretty much. It's too bad the spectre of counting down the episodes ruins peoples enjoyment.
I really hope the endless crypts references this episode are just a bait and all those old skeletons stay dead because they are too long gone. If they really do the oops we forgot crypts are actually where the dead are meme then at least I want Ned-Undead-Stark killing several main characters and chomping on their corpses or something ridiculous like that.

"its the safest there" "its the safest place" "the crypts are safe" .... could they make it any clearer that everyone in the crypts is gonna die ? xD

Maybe they’re double bluffing with GoT’s well established reputation for killing characters and the surprise will be that those in the crypts are safe?

Come on it’s gotta be Dead Stark. Missed opportunity man

There are two easy "logical" answers:
1) They could have just walked around it through the water (they demonstrated this ability in S7 to a limited extent, grabbing people out of the ice, but it could be just rule of cool like Euron's never-mentioned-as-anti-wight-weapon fire bombardment cannons) and the wall was always just a way to stop roving wights, rather than directed ones. This is a bit silly, though.
2) The Night King has the ability to see the future to some extent and knew he would get the dragon. Honestly this explanation is the one most palatable to me given the standoff north of the wall in S7, especially if he's going to be treated as a logical actor with a strategy in this season, because damn his actions that day sure looked like he was hoping to raise a dragon.

Anyone else think the Arya romance is completely ham-fisted and out of place? Also she still looks like she's 10 years old to me......
Too much forced romance. Jon and Dany is terrible. Sansa and Theon is probably going to happen so hopefully one of them dies. Jaime and Brienne is alright, but only because it's actually been building up for 4 seasons.
That knighting scene was also really good - they probably stole it from GRRM's diary.

I don't see any romance, they are just having sex. And it makes full sense for a couple youngsters before a big battle. Specially if one or both are virgins.

As for age, the show is full of supposed minors have sex, atleast this one was consensual.
It does smell an awful lot of purely being included for fan service tho.

Speaking of forced, what exactly are Yara's forces? How does she intend to take back the islands? Theon goes to rescue her with 20 good men, they somehow steal and sail back with like 5 ships, which is ridiculous by itself. But then apparently Theon splits and takes his men with him, since he says he will defend Bran with his men(?). So Yara is pretty much alone, has 5 ships somehow and wants to take back the islands where the people should be loyal to Euron since he did the drowning ritual etc etc. I dont understand whats going on with that storyline at all.

I think the assumption is that all able bodied men and women are with Euron leaving no one on the Iron Islands but the children and the elderly.

Isnt that completely stupid considering how there are many other continents and civilizations in the GoT world?

Considering Arya has infiltrated depraved brothels and seen the worst of men’s destructive sexual appetites, kinda makes sense she’d want to see what the fuss was about on her terms.

I wish we had more exposition on the state of play in the wider world though being serious, it seems to flit in and out when it’s convenient, or it’s absence makes things confusing.

Na, we really did not need that scene. Aryas character is already ruined past any redemption, her being horny does not make it better. Imho tho worst scene in the episode. Hey, asexual underage girl, you will have fuckscene in this episode, it will be about 2 minutes long and the foreshadowing of it will have been 2 minutes more. You will go directly to sex with zero foreplay, and zero build up. It sums up all that is wrong about the last two episodes. Some of those 2 minute snippets were not so bad, some of the plot points even made sense and very interesting, but the fact that they have so little time for it despite cutting the runtime for reasons nobody understands shows that they don't know better. When i heard that the longst episode was 80 minutes and the first two were again under 60 i knew this could not end well. They are simply stringing fanservice scenes onto another and then they will do a few epic scenes, that will be really stupid and illogical when you think too much about it and that will be it. I even liked this episode more then the last one, but why they would make two super short and inconsequential episodes at the start is baffling to me. They could have made both of them 10 minutes longer and they could have been so much better, giving time to the scenes that needed it badly or putting in some short action scenes to make it more digestable... i just don't udnerstand why they would go for short and "boring". It makes no sense.

Arya and Gendry have been hanging out all through season 1,2,3, only getting separated because he's sold off in slavery to the red woman for gold. It's not like she approached some random. She put Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr on her kill list for selling Gendry, probably only removing them because she found Gendry alive at Winterfell

It's not like she approached some random. Exactly, the concept of the scene was fine and made a lot of sense. It was just a little awkward because for a lot of people arya is still the little girl we saw in season 1 and if we are being real the actress also still looks really young. It could have been executed a little better, but it was fine overall imo.

The actress is 22. I get that in the "lore" that she is supposed to still be young, but so is Gendry. It was not the first time an adult has played a teenager and had the sex on camera. And the show has aged over time and even though only a couple of years have passed in GOT world, almost a decade has gone by for the audience. That factors into how the characters are portrayed on the show.
