Yes but that's the flaw right there. WHY put that line if it is not true? They were literally introducing the byakugan for the first time. So any information given should be important and true to the story. You don't go "X had hair as black as coal" when describing a new character when they really have blonde hair. When you introduce something new, the information needs to be correct and concise. It's a basic practice in writing. If what kishi said is false then it's utterly poor writing. If what kishi said is true, it makes no sense at all in the story, as that would mean the hyuugas predate the sage of the 6 paths. There is literally no need to explain how the byakugan came into being when introducing it if what you're saying is wrong. Adding a layer of wrong to a description just is bad and should never be done. Especially in s manga that has limited panels.
So I have to go with it being poor writing from a time before he had the full story laid out. Yet as a writer he should have worked it into the story in a proper way which could incorporate more normal ninja like neji and his clan. Instead we have this silly op eyes mess and information that was given to us but doesn't hold true due to him going "nah, i said 'they' say."
Guess what, when a writer of a story says "they" say, the writer means themself.  It's the writer who says everything in the story. If it makes no sense, that's the writers own fault.

That's anime filler, those fights are entirely off-panel. Additionally that is no different to what Kenpachi said when he was fighting his clone in the current arc

If anything happens other than: most people except Naruto die -> Naruto gets a powerup -> Naruto beats them, I'm gonna be quite surprised. Still, Sasuke's gotta figure into the equation at some point, I suppose.

At least One Piece has a legitimate premise of ridiculous goofiness to keep it going, Naruto has been painfully obvious in it's BS for the sake of continuing. Meanwhile high quality manga like Mx0 and Double Arts get the shaft in their prime because they don't get the numbers of stagnant manga like Naruto and Bleach.
Silver lining in that the manga is not nearly as mind numbingly terrible as the 1/2 filler anime.

Dakkas is correct, the whole team Gai vs their clones is filler since it was all off paneled in the manga. And the entire 7 mist swordsman fight is filler as well, in the manga Kakashi off paneled all the swordsmen himself after beating Zabuza.

True, but that's assuming first that Shikamaru has been watching him fight, and that at some point in the fight Obito had phased continuously for 5 minutes straight. We've not seen that happen in the manga except in the fight between him and Konan.

No clue actually. The only way Konan can figure it out is to see him in a fight and be forced to phase for extended amounts of time, never longer than 5 minutes. Or maybe he has things he keep in the other dimension, and when he goes he always comes back in no more than 5 minutes. Less likely but still possible is that he for some reason told someone and Konan heard or found out. Either way he's shown nothing that would betray this weakness in the current fight. All they know at the moment is that he can phase his body parts to a different dimension linked to Kakashi's eye and He's only phased for seconds at a time.
