Edit: Not really sure if I was missing something but all these "Naruto has grown up" scene have always make me feel like it's some kind of cheap attempt at making the scene emotional.

Is it just me or Naruto got the respect he's having now because of the Nine Tail power, not because of himself? All of these talk about Naruto has "grown up" has always seems very random to me. As far as Naruto's characters go, he has never changed from the beginning till the latest manga and he was hated back in the first couple of chapters (always the annoying but "loveable" guy). So what actually changed their opinion on Naruto? Gaara is an exception because he actually respect naruto for a legit reason. The ability to control the 9-tails is already a great feet and he didnt even need the 9-tails power to defeat Pain. Pain was able to defeat the ENTIRE village and naruto, himself, was able to defeat pain with just sage mode. Even without the 9-tails, he still at the lvl of pain which is probably one of the strongest akataski member. Being able to control the strongest tailed beast that has been pretty much uncontrollable and fully utilized its power isnt enough to be recognized? By grow up, it doesnt have to be him litterally "growing up" getting taller etc etc. It can just mean that they are surprise at how far he has come basically his "growth" from being the village outcast to the hero. She is in loved and still in loved with a psychotic idiots that all wants is revenge and he even tried to kill her and yet she still want his junk. Classic example of why girl complains that there are no "nice guys." Not saying that I am one, but it just a good example. Pretty sure a large majority of the fans of the series want her dead lol. Kinda hope the creepy Hinata girl gets him although I doubt it since the main heroine usually wins and the 2nd heroine usually dies. :/ In fact, since she just confessed this chapter that she will instead of walking behind him, will walk with him, she will probably die. Usually when 2nd heroine make speeches like these or confess their feeling, they generally die soon after. Probably by the hand of sasuke imo

I guess it's because he was disregarded by his own village ever since he was young, but instead of getting consumed by hatred he made it his goal to become hokage and become recognized amongst his peers. It's not that unsual for a young kid to dream to become hokage but it is when you never met your mother and father, you didn't have friends, and everyone avoided you for a reason you couldn't understand. I think it's impressive enough to have that kind of mentality (and dare I say, maturity) but far more impressive that he puts his words to action and actually does it.

But what i'm saying is everyone in the manga seems to respect Naruto as a person which is oppose to everyone hates him at the beginning, but as far as i'm concern there are literally zero character development, he's still the same person from billion chapters ago but people's attitude toward him seems changed for no reason.

Naruto is different from the start of the series, but some of the characteristics must be there throughout the series because that's just his personality. His way of ninja have never changed - and have been enforced constantly. His goofiness is what we have learned to love and hate. Gaara is far from the only person that acknowledes Naruto. Iruka was the first person to do so. You also have Sakura, Kakashi, Tsunade, Hinata, Kiba, Neji and all the other shinobi's on his age. Recently the citizens of Konoha see Naruto as a hero when he saved the hidden leaf after defeating Nagato, a fellow Uzumaki. I don't think he got the respect he has now because of the Nine Tails power, but rather for being able to control his biju and using the power for the greater good for the world.

I didn't say Gaara is the only one -_- i said he was the only one who respect naruto for a legit reason. Iruka is the only one whom respect naruto from the beginning so it doesn't count. I'm asking about people who CHANGED their attitude toward naruto. They seems to suddenly changed their opinion on him as a person because he used the OP nine tails and save the villages which is irrelevent and black/white as hell.

They hated him because they didnt understand him because they were scared of him. The point is, is that he didnt change to please the people around him. He never done anything wrong. What is there to change? Except the whole graffti thing but that was kinda a way to get back at them. He didnt really change much, he was just able to make people see him for who he really was instead of the Tale beast keeper. Before, everyone hated him because he was the tale beast keeper and now people see him as the ninja called Naruto. Dont forget, he defeated pain WITHOUT the power of the 9tails. So that was naruto that defeated the 9tails and NOT the 9tails beast keepers. Your not trolling right? lol these seems kinda obvious.

The kids didn't know he was a Nine Tail Keeper (forgot the name), they hated him because of his personality. And yes he did use the power of the Nine Tail to defeat Pain because without it he wouldnt even be able to master the Sage mode that quick. So after all, a same person with the same personality, was hated back then and now loved, that's the not obvious part. That's why i'm asking why did they change their opinion on a person whom has changed nothing or i'm missing out something.
