4th hokage couldn't teleport, he just moved incredibly fast
whereas madara is supposedly able to actually teleport from one location to another

4th Hokage could teleport through Hiraishin no Jutsu. His special kunai had seals on them that allowed him to instantly appear there. Hiraishin no Jutsu is a space/time jutsu, much like how shinobi summon animals from miles away, or Kakashi's Mangekyou Sharingan.
'Course, he was damn fast as well.

^^, Antifate is correct, 4th's jutsu was a space/time teleportation jutsu, but it required a seal placed at the destination to do. So far to our knowledge, madara's teleportation does not require a seal.

i was under the impression he didn't literally teleport and essentially just moved really fast
which is why his nickname was "the yellow flash", because he would flash by you
but you're probably right
