1. its not just a summon, its invisible to everyone but those being attacked by the pein body. And its not eating intestines, its consuming their soul.
2. the brat that is "just like naruto" is the grandson of the third hokage and a representative of the next generation, an ongoing and vitally important theme in the manga.
3. sounds like youre more into shiny fighting than actual character development. these back stories seem like theyre "dragging it out" but when you encounter the same characters in future arcs you'll appreciate their personalities far more. The latest chapter can hardly be considered adding backstory to anything. There was 0 character development in that chapter. Honestly - point it out. That was probably one of the worst chapters in the entire manga. It was downright horrible and makes no sense when looking at the direction of the other chapters.

+ Show Spoiler +Its character development because youre getting people that are likely going to be important characters in the future some fleshing out. How hard is it to understand that Konohamaru is displaying a steel set of balls here, and that his courage is bolstered by the fact that Naruto has had a hand in his development by showing him some technique. Also, as Phantom pointed out, its showing the emotional side of the characters of the village. What better time to bolster the audience's connection with the characters by instilling in them a sense of loss, growth and hope? Personally I find the characters much more endearing now than before. I guess Kishi's style this chapter didn't mesh with you guys, BUT! I would also like to say that while you may find this chapter shitty, in the context of the manga as a whole I'm pretty confident you will find it will enrichen your experience with naruto. To Hyperbole: Konohamaru saw the entire sequence and said "He (Pain body) didnt move a muscle and the guy on the left jsut stopped moving". 1. If that monster existed in the corporeal world he wouldn't have been able to SEE the sequence because it would have blocked the view. 2. he would have seen the intestines being RIPPED OUT OF THEIR MOUTHS. Pretty goddamn solid evidence of a spiritual/genjitsu based assault.

I feel like he's talking about Shikamaru, involving Ino and Choji. But in reality, Shikamaru is really, really badass while Ino and Choji are deadweights. There are a lot of scenes that Shikamaru is just like, I outthough everyone here (except for whoever that kid was, back on page like, 12, who called how Shikamaru beats Hindan).
