On another note, is it ever explained how Kakashi's mangekyo unlocks? If killing someone close/lcosest one to you is the requirement, he must feel really guilty about that kid he got it from and they didn't seem close at all.

And it was shown in one chapter that Sasuke is in fact losing his eye sight.

it was after the fight with the 8 tail where sasuke is recovering where reaches for a glass of water and he misses and knocks it over.

I think itachi transfered his ms to sasuke when he tapped sasuke. When sasuke first uses Amaterasu on tobi/madara you see that his eyes turns into itachi's ms but later on it transform into his own ms. It is said to activate ms you have to kill your best friend/closest one. I guess the pain of hearing the truth about his brother and being the one that killed him is what allowed him to awaken his own ms.

It was never explained how kakashi got his ms. He just all of sudden during the deidara fight uses it. Actually Obito who Kakashi got his sharingan from were close. And why would he feel guilty for taking it. Obito gave it to him.
