I believe his mom said something about his dad being in USA for business(?).
His ability is indeed OP, but that's okay. It's still early in the storyline (counting chapters) and he's still clueless to much of his surroundings. As soon as he survives a very difficult situation/opponent, he'll turn it up more and become serious OP.

Considering how (fuck i'm terrible at names) his friend's family interact with his mom, it seems too familiar. At least from the viewpoint we have on it.
