Personally I think it's a good album, but disappointing given that it's coming from Kanye. With him I know he's capable of a better album, mostly lyrically.

Jay Z might fair a bit better, but Blueprint 3 wasn't world class, it was good though, but not amazing.

(thats after 90s before u QQ) Depends on what you mean by biggest. I don't really know how I'd rate Yeezus, the first half of the album was great, the second - bleurgh. Overall, i was kinda disappointed considering all the hype and that it came after MBDTF which is probably my favourite/second favourite Kanye album

The link he put has actual critics saying the opposite. Opinions are opinions, facts are facts but i agree with your sentiment.

Calling something bad when in direct opposition to unanimous praise by a select group of individuals who literally have the job of critiquing seems a bit short sighted. Especially when no argument of substance was made as to why Yeezus is not good. It would be better for them to simply voice their personal dislike of the album and accept that it is actually a quality work of music that falls outside their preference.

haha Love Adam West's voice, but part of it is white dudes saying rap lyrics.

I hadn't listened to J-Cole before, but listening to these two songs off Born Sinner: and compare the lyrics/beat to this, from Yeezus: Seriously, how the fuck do people like Yeezus?

what a surprise, a Kanye West album got positive reviews from critics. you do realize how popular he is and how perfect of an opportunity it is for professional music critics to call something "great" that is both very popular AND very different from the rest of the mainstream? it makes them look like they're ahead of the curve while also appealing to the preferences of a large amount of their readers. that does not change the fact i can't even listen to this album. it destroys my ears. i did not expect Kanye to rap anything good, cause i know he can't, but the lyrics are even worse than his other album. what i did expect, however, was great production, and that electronic bullshit kills my ears.

There is more singing than rapping, so I'm not completely sure if it qualifies as Hip Hop / Rap.

Born Sinner as a whole was just not that interesting. Hearing 'Villuminati' for the first time was like "ohhh shit, this is amazing", then it was just a roller coaster of good and meh. Rich Niggaz, Forbidden Fruit, Let Nas Down & Runaway were all pretty strong in all regards. Everything else was kinda forgettable. Something about the way Cole deals with his material is just too plain. I could go into great detail if could be bothered really reviewing the album (had about ~4 full listens, ~10 on certain songs) but its just not worth the effort. Its a good album, but even listening to it now it just comes across as weak. Yeezus on the other hand is just fucking nuts. It demands your attention instantly and does a pretty good job holding it. Its not a nice album by any stretch. Its dirty, crass, obnoxious and outrageous. It also comes across as entirely sincere. I think Kanye put himself into this 100% just like 808s. There's no gloss at all. Lyrics are utterly without pretense. Some of the lines are pretty shit under conventional analysis. But I don't find myself cringing. I mean sampling a song as solemnly disturbing as Strange Fruit and using it to underpin the lyrics and production of Blood of the Leaves is almost disgusting in its concept. Its SO fucking obtuse. And yet that is probably my favourite song. I mean if Bound 2 is a love song then yet contains these lines like these All them other niggas lame, and you know it now When a real nigga hold you down, you supposed to drown I wanna fuck you hard on the sink After that, give you something to drink Step back, can't get spunk on the mink She asked me what I wished for on my wishlist Have you ever asked your bitch for other bitches? How is it even a love song? But that's kinda the beauty of it all. Its fucking ridiculous. Beautifully fucking ridiculous. If art is the baring of the human condition, no matter how lovely or disgusting, then this is a record of Kanye's humanity at this time.

I think that's a nice take on Yeezus. you have to really pay attention to it, and on the surface it's very rough. Nice that you mention 808s because i enjoyed that enough that i understand what you mean. I need more listens for lyrics and different elements but after 5 or so times ive def found parts that i enjoy. i mean there's flaws here and there but overall i agree with you - if you look at it as an artform and not just a hip hop album there's things to appreciate and love. which is exactly why people don't like it, i suppose. also my favorite songs were also blood on the leaves and bound 2 so i think we can get along lol. i think its something you have to zoom out to listen to at the same time though. which goes against what i said originally when i first went through, but looking at it from that perspective.. i dunno man. so easy to say 'oh its pretty bad,' but a bad album won't have you wanting to listen to it again
