That book is really great! Of course I do not share his pseudo-fascist beliefs and he seems to be quite an obnoxious person, but I still enjoyed that book a lot (except for some really disgusting parts).

One things that occured to me only much later when I had met more french people and lived in France for some time is that this is a very french book in a way that I cannot explain. It just feels french in a subtle way that I could never quite grasp. Did anyone else feel similar about this book?

Definitely recommended to anyone who has not read it.

Hell yeah Corum, I will be sure to pick your brain after you are done reading it, as the only other person I know who has is my father, and I must get a French perspective!

I really like Batman from time to time, but this book is just awful.

Reading:

Not really good either. The translation is super bad, but in the library they do not have english originals. I should probably just reread The Dark Knight...

I had not read Verne for, say, 20 years. So far this book is surprisingly fun.

80 pages into Les particules élémentaires, I think Houellebecq is in fact a huge troll.

The Great Shark Hunt. Collection of papers published by Hunter S Thompson. Fun reads that really help you get into Thompson's head. Sometimes that can be a downright scary place, but so can the world.

Oh yeah that has a lot of his best stuff.

I just finished Journey to the End of the Night by Céline. I can't put it anywhere but among the greatest novels I've ever read, and I find it rather indescribable, I can't seem to get across to anyone else (except my family, they are on the same page) how compelling it is.

Next up I have Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, and Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell.
Yeah, well, you know, that's just like, your opinion man

about 20 pages in and it's hilarious so far. It's only like 80 p long, recommend picking it up

edit: also hilarious satire of victorian attitudes about class and race and gender. Great book!

I was actually reading Flatland earlier in the year and I must say that I found it rather cute.

Edit:
Just finished:

Not really sure what I think about this one. It's a somewhat interesting phenomenon where light travel at different speed depending on it's wavelength. But the book reads like a arXiv.org paper. The story elements are ok, but their presentation is lacking. Characters feels very one dimensional, and chronologically it jumps almost randomly. One chapter discussing 20 minuts of lecture, and suddenly 6 years into the future. It reminds me of Flatland to some extent, only where Flatland succeeds by being short and to the point, "Clockwork Rocket" fails for the same reason. It's almost as if this book is the sum of it's part, and not more.

But if you like mathematical / physical contemplation and similar mysteries then you might enjoy this book more than me.

I'm loving this iraq war book, I think its really informative and pretty good at presenting multiple viewpoints. That said, I hope to finish it soon so that I can read sam!zdats book.
