No, this is not a joke/trolling thread. We don't need more filler posts asking if it is. Remember to spoiler season 6 content, and clearly label your spoilers.

![]() + Show Spoiler + Picture by Blotto The Clown of gamerswithjobs.com Bio and I have been setting up and organizing a weekly showmatch series for the communities enjoyment, and I'm here to announce the first event! Each week, Bio will be joined by a community guest caster to cast a best of 7 series between two members of the community! Games are going to be each Sunday. The Guest Caster for Week 2: You know him, you love him (and his troll antics), the illustrious + Show Spoiler + Stardragon Third series: Date: March Fourth (Yes, that's an order soldier), 2012 Time: 2:00 pm EST Place: Battle.net (And #tlponies of course) The Players: Sermok(P) vs. Jhuyt(Z)! If you wish to participate in future Bronycraft Showmatches as a player or as a guest caster, please contact me via PM here on TL.net or get a hold of me some other way. If you want to be streamed or have a go at casting, this event is your chance :D. If you're at all interested, PM me, I'll do my best to get you in if you merely show interest. You do require a NA account, or access to one (perhaps someone will be nice and lend you one if you need it). For this sunday, would somepony happen to have a guest pass that is unused for the NA server? Jhuyt requires one (or for someone to lend him an account).

It makes sense to me how someone could be offended. While I think Ditzy is a less offensive name, I would've preferred if that scene never aired and that character never had a canon name. We were all happy when derpy/ditzy was not canon, and she didnt need to be. I read some of the letters against the name derpy and I honestly think the arguments are logical and well thought out. They're not whining, and have good reason to feel the way they do. Now while I am not handicapped, and I guess if you used the word derp around me I wouldn't be too offended, but then I gotta leave this quote: Sure very few people were offended in the end, a minority, but its better that way. Atleast it wasn't a large group of people. If people can be offended enough to send mail complaining, the next likely thing to happen is bad rep from media. It could've appeared on Fox news, who knows. Hasbro is covering their asses and I honestly think they are in the right for doing so, and I would also like to think that maybe they are sensitive enough to care about not offending people. The more important question would be whether appeasing a large fanbase is more important than avoiding alienating a minority, in regards to a show targeted at children. Whether Derp is better than Ditzy, that answer has little value. Just some thoughts I thought I'd leave here. So what makes putting Derpy Hooves on TV any different than putting Ed from Ed, Edd 'n Eddy on TV, Ed the Hyena from the Lion King on the big screen, Cheese from Foster's Home, or any other archetypical dumbass, fuckwit, peabrain, or braindead character on to any other form of mainstream media? If it's the demographic that watches this that you're concerned with, in the case of young children, I don't think they're going to make the connection of Derpy and mental retardation. In the case of the adult... why would you be offended by this, when there's plenty out there already that's offensive on PURPOSE?? The fact that this is even a topic of discussion is baffling to me.

I do understand why they panicked and hurried to change it though, as they had no idea what they had unleashed. I don't see anything wrong in their actions at removing derpys name from the episode, though, I still find it wrong, that they felt the need for it through people contacting them. Oh well, my last page in my Out of bounds comic is up! I think I've removed all the small oopses everywhere (white still visible on the transparent areas, a tongue that shouldn't have the colour of her coat and a bit of colour that wasn't meant to be) http://caumen.deviantart.com/art/Out-of-bounds-3-288059263 I hope you like it! \o/ Toodles

Its the effect of both the name, the voice and the actions of Derpy which strongly imply some kind of retardation. Now if you drop say, the voice then suddenly Derpy becomes associated with being clumsy rather than retarded. Change the name from Derpy to Ditzy and keep the voice and you still have the association with clumsy rather than retarded. If you look at Ed, his name doesn't imply that he is retarded. The same goes for similar characters in shows (i.e. pinky from pinky and the brain). Unfortunately, Derpy just had too many traits indicating it and this was the result.

The fact that this is even a topic of discussion is baffling to me. the difference is that these characters were not named retard (or in this case; derp). They were given names like ed, Ralph, Patrick. Children might not realize the word they are using is a slur, but that's where the word derives from. We shouldn't teach children that calling other people a retard is ok. You have to remember, this is a show which resounds around teaching children good values. from my perspective: voice change : changed because the character was supposed to be a girl in the first place. Might as well fix the mistake. name removal : political correctness. necessary. eye corrected : the producers had a panic attack. it was unnecessary to change this. EDIT: This is a show where rainbow calling twilight an egghead was considered borderline. Of course Derp crosses that line.

Happy Derpy Hooves Day! I hope it was a good one. This whole controversy has really been a downer. But if there's one thing this show is about, it's about being happy and friendly even in the worst of circumstances. So, I guess we should all just stay positive and smile smile smile!
