well there's a lot of comedy in it, i personally like it because i find all of the characters very likable, and i found all the stuff that happens with the aunt funny. i don't know if you mean is there more "mature" humor in other dramas? cuz most kdramas are mature

ps fart jokes #1

I saw MGIAG and didn't even remember the scene before you mentioned it. There's so much more to the drama than that moment of "childish humor", and that was mostly done to set up an awkward story line between them that ran throughout the drama. Most if not all dramas from the Hong sisters are really good written and usually manages to stay away from the same old kdrama plot.

You ignore that shit. That was terrible. The relationship between the older people are just filler. If you skip that part, the main storyline is actually 1) unique 2) watchable.

Plus, who doesn't want a hot girl following you around. That's the premise of the entire story, lol.

Most dramas contain an Ahjumma side story. But that's not the reason we're watching the shows for.

And yea, most dramas are more mature (i.e. no fart jokes). But I don't know how that could influence the fact that Mi Ho is the most adorable character in all the dramas I've watched to this day which makes this (one of) the best series I've watched to this day.

Her hunger for meat, her running after the dude in the chicken costume, the Hoi Hoi. I mean I consider myself grown up but I'll never get so mature to not laugh/smile at that anymore.

On an unrelated note, is Salaryman any good?

haha good to hear that i wasnt the only one that was like WTF :p, but still i would like something that is slightly more mature. (and i dont necissarily mean sex and violence, its just that the overall feel of MGFIAGH is somewhat immature..)

Oh man there's a fart joke in My Girlfriend is a Gumiho? Now I MUST watch it lol I heard it was a great drama. I have way too many dramas to watch.

Currently I'm following "Bachelor's Vegetable Store" and so far I really like it.

You got sex and violence in Girl K (or Killer K). But that's gotta be the of the most immature dramas out there.

Which is why it's so awesome.

The dramas i have watched so far are.

Time Between Dog And Wolf (by far the best drama i have seen yet)
Iljimae
Prosecutor Princess
Full House ( i started but i just couldn't get into it)

I currently have on my computer still the Princess man and my princes. I am so excited to see Princess man! the reviews have been great and after Park Shi Hoo's role in Iljame i have nothing but excitement. I think i am going to get Midas and Warrior Baek Dong Soo. Still have a good few hours to get through before i make my way to them though! I also have Dae Jang Geum but for some reason i just have not gotten round to watching it yet.

edit 1 - mod edit: please don't put these links in your posts a great place to download kdrama, a lot have english subs and are hd. i am currently out of invites but when i get some more i will invite some people from tl.

I just finished IRIS such a good show for being my first Korean drama i watched. The only thing that irk me were the actors portraying the Americans. Aside from that, a very good show. Can some recommend some other good korean dramas like IRIS? Thanks!

Hmm I would say just follow it up with Athena? It may not be as good as Iris but it's the same producers/budget and decent cast. It's basically the Sequel, if you want to enter the romantic comedy type drama, go for My GF is a Gumiho.

On a side note: Im really sad there's still no info about iris 2, rumours last year said that they would start filming around december but I guess at this point not even the cast is decided

@Timurid: IRIS >> City Hunter is a pretty smooth transition. Although I preferred IRIS by far. The story was just so good whereas City Hunter relies too much on it's actors. Still a damn good show. And if that doesn't please you, follow AsnSensation's alternative advice (MGIAG).

@sung_moon: I'm still catching up on old shows but (History of a) Salaryman is supposed to be awesome. It just started airing and subtitles should be available soon.

Not at all recent but I just finished High Kick 2 (Through the roof). Once it got going, I really enjoyed it, loved a lot of the characters. Especially the doctor Ji Hoon, so boss. Even the infamous terrible ending wasn't as bad as I expected.

Mostly becuase it was just so out of place. "Hey how can we resolve the main love triangle we've built up for over 100 episdoes? I know, lets just have two of them die in a carcrash out of the blue!" -.-;;

anyone else have beef with so many korea dramas ending with "bad" ending? (main character(s) dying)

frankly, i'm sick of it -,.- its just cliche, unoriginal "shock" ending.

Korean dramas tend to be somewhat big on the toilet humor, for those who remarked on the fart joke in MGIAG. By far not all dramas have them, but it's not unusual for the comedies to feature toilet humor.

Example: My Name is Kim Sam-Soon, which is one of the most successful and highly praised rom-coms to ever air on Korean TV, with viewership ratings so high that at some point literally half the country's households were tuning in -- it has a joke where the male lead is on the toilet after taking a dump and he has no toilet paper. (He ends up using his... socks to wipe).

I'm not sure why Korean comedy loves toilet humor so much, but it very surprisingly even crops up in otherwise quite intelligent and unique comedies.

Recently I've been watching old classics that I highly highly recommend like 호텔리어 (Hotelier) and 대장금 (not sure what this is in english? help?).. If anyone wants to watch these 2 classics you can find them streaming on most sites -- I use dramafever.com and have been very pleased with the quality.

I generally like series that aren't purely romance -- that is, dramas that have a historical context or another theme that runs deeply throught the storyline that isn't plot related (the ambiance of working/running a hotel, being a chef, etc.)

Will try out My Girlfriend is a Gumiho[fOu] though this week..

대장금 is known in English fandom circles by its exact romanization: Daejanggeum. (Though I think I've seen it spelled 'Daejangeum' too). On YesAsia it's known as 'Jewel in the Palace.'

And yes. Great classic.
