That's exactly why Bleach/Naruto are finally running down, there's a fuckton of deus ex machinas. One Piece keeps those to a minimum, and while it's still a shounen, it doesn't have the typical 1 chapter BS powerups. Luffy got cocky and overconfident and underestimated CC power and got his oxygen sucked dry.
he didnt underestimate him, he was running circles around hi without taking a scrath, its impossible to have predicted that CC had such a hax ability that he only had because the plot demanded luffy lose there
Luffy VS Don Krieg was a fight
Luffy VS Arlong was a fight
Luffy VS Crocodile was a (long) fight
Luffy VS Rob (round one) was a warm up
Luffy VS Rob (round two) was a fight

Also, anyone think third generation dragon slayers might have been both taught by a dragon and had lachryma planted in them? That would explain why they can activate Dragon Force easily.

So wait, releasing that magic jar or something made them this strong? I mean, it was pretty obvious that neither Natsu and especially Gajeel weren't trying at all yet, but this seems a little ridiculous. Dragon Force Natsu couldn't beat Jellal, and he's way stronger than any of the dragon slayers here (natsu included).
