It could have been a smart move if he conditioned Brandish to act just in the scenario that August refused to listen her. Or at least have Brandish to kill herself too after killing August. Otherwise he'll only be setting up things to be a really angry/betrayed Brandish, a really pissed off August, or the sum of the two: Not good.

EDIT: Could have been "awesome evilish smart", but just came up to be "really stupid and coward move for FT standards".

That's just my opinion, tho. Feel free to differ.

no, best case scenario is how I mentioned, where august dies and brandish turns against FT, utterly raping them in the process.

It's a step down compared to where FT was before Mest did what he did.

Well to continue your hypothetical scenarios Brandish simply doesn't attack fairy tail or attack them and win. At the very least, a far bigger threat than Brandish who has uncertain motivations is gone from conquering the continent. It only seems silly because apparently one of the most powerful magic users (Brandish) in the world thinks that the best way to kill someone is apparently stabbing them in the heart and uh, this being fairy tail logic, people can easily live through the most crushing injuries, and because it was drawn purposefully in a very unsympathetic way towards Mest. It only seems silly because fairy tail is silly.

To be fair to Brandish, I doubt she had any will in that situation and just robotically attacked him. Not like she was in control enough to think of an actual good way to attack him since her will was essentially overruled.

Its just a very un Fairy Tail like tactic, which is why Natsu was pissed af (even when they initially thought it worked).

Na, FT people believe in the power of friendship so Mest not having faith is the unreasonable move.

On the other hand, while I like the character being paranoid and sometimes overdoing things because of it (and not as comic relief), making him irrational and wrong for it is lame. "If your personality doesn't fit, you're a baddie."
When Elfman blew up the guild to save his sister is closer to how I'd like to see it handled.

But in the end it's a shonen and Mest a character we can only assume to be smart and thoughtful from the throwaway "he was our spy in the council for months" backstory provided by Makarov more than 20 chapters ago, so can't expect care to be put into it.

nothing I would love more than gildartz going all out for once, in a fight that would take at least 2 chapters to finish (with only that fight being shown and no filler)

sadly, there hasn't been any hint towards gildartz at all, so I don't think he'll be joining in.

My guess would be that the FT vs August fight will not happen at all at this point because ft simply CANNOT beat him with what members they have there.
I think the fight will be dissolved somehow either with them making up or with erzamom vs acnologia going rampart or something
